'Haven't seen it like that for years': Locust outbreak plaguing outback Queensland

View descriptionShare

Outback Queensland graziers around Muttaburra, Longreach and Aramac are battling a major locust outbreak, with dense swarms devouring pasture critical for winter feed.

Longreach Savannah Guide Alan Smith told Dean Miller on 4BC Breakfast, "On a motorbike, as kids, they'd really knock you around."

"They can be quite large, but they are different sizes as they're swarming because they're babies at one stage, but they are ferocious."

"They just literally go through and just eat as they're going through."
