The word ‘Nachos’ comes from the nickname of its inventor, Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Anaya, a restaurateur in Piedras Negras, Mexico, who created the dish in 1943 for American military wives. ‘Nacho’ is a common Spanish nickname for Ignacio, and the original dish, ‘Nacho's Especiales’ was later shortened to ‘Nachos’. All I have to say is ‘MUCHAS GRACIAS Ignacio!”
