Speculation is rife that more DA councillors will resign in support of Mayor Patricia De Lille in order for them to restart the Independent Democrats. It’s reported that several sources in the DA and in the De Lille camp confirmed that work is underway to relaunch the ID ahead of next year’s election. In 2010 The Former Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille announced that it would merge with the Patricia De Lille’s Independent Democrats party to better challenge the ANC in the 2014 election.
