Matthew 18:3 is not a command to become naive or to pretend the responsibilities are not real. It is an invitation to reorient the heart toward the God who is already present in the ordinary. The challenge tonight is a simple and practical one. Begin the next prayer with three specific things to be grateful for. Two significant ones. And one small, seemingly insignificant one. The dew on the grass. A song hummed before bed. A moment of unexpected kindness. Because gratitude is the door that opens us back to wonder, and wonder is the posture that lets us receive God's glory in the places we have been too exhausted to look.

There is beauty all around. The heart of thanksgiving is what helps us finally see it.

Ponder Tonight

Responsibility and wonder are not opposites. The invitation of Matthew 18:3 is to find God's presence and beauty within the ordinary demands of life, not on the other side of them.

When our prayers consist almost entirely of requests, we are treating God more like a resource than a relationship. Beginning with praise and specific thanksgiving reorients the heart before anything else is asked.

Gratitude for small and seemingly insignificant things is not trivial. It is actually one of the most powerful practices for training our eyes to see God's omnipresent goodness in the places we have been walking past without noticing.

A child finds wonder not because their circumstances are easier but because their eyes are open. That openness is something we can choose to cultivate, even in the most exhausting and routine seasons of life.

Your Evening Prayer

Lord,

Thank You for Your mercy, grace, and love that not only follow us but sustain and encourage us in the middle of our responsibilities. As we look to You for wisdom and guidance, may we also simply look at who You truly are. Grant us thankful hearts and open eyes that see and feel Your goodness in the places we have been too busy or too tired to notice.

Slow us down when we are bogged down. Let us pause long enough to praise You and invite Your presence into the routine. Life is hard, and this world demands a great deal of us. And yet You invite us to come to You as children, with wonder and awe and celebration amid the chaos.

Lead us to Your heart as we cultivate our own hearts of gratitude.

We love You, Jesus.
