In our evening prayer and devotional, we remember that unrealistic expectations aren’t just stressful; they’re pride in disguise. We convince ourselves we can do it all—or that others should meet our unspoken needs. When life inevitably falls short, frustration robs us of the joy God wants us to experience in each moment.

Jesus invites us to trade the crushing weight of performance for His gift of rest. He doesn’t demand more of us—He offers peace. He asks us to release the pressure of being “superhuman” and instead embrace His strength in our weakness. When we surrender our expectations to Him, we find freedom to enjoy what is, instead of grieving over what “should have been.”

🙏 Your Nightly Prayer

God,
I lay down my unrealistic and overwhelming expectations. Each day is a gift, and I choose to trust You with what can be accomplished in my days. Please show me how to relax when things don’t go as I hoped. Teach me to live in Your rest, knowing that all I do is by Your strength alone. Let Your peace that surpasses all understanding guard my heart and mind as I consider my goals. Your way, not my way.
