If we secretly believe that God's love works the same way — that His approval rises and falls with our performance — then we will spend our entire lives flinching, never quite sure where we stand. We are saved not by effort, not by performance, not by any accumulation of good days outweighing bad ones, but by grace — the unearned, unwarranted, completely free gift of divine love. 3. Faith means daring to believe grace exists even where we are most tempted to doubt it. In our failures, our worst moments, our most shameful corners — grace is already there. Faith is simply the choice to believe that and act accordingly.
