Australia’s first recognised Indigenous surgeon, Associate Professor Dr Kelvin Kong, was crowned City of Newcastle’s 2021 Citizen of the Year in January. Joined by local storyteller and member of the Stolen Generation, Dr Donna Meehan, we take a deep dive on the importance of giving First Nations people a voice in our community and addressing the disparity in health outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations. Prof Kong joins us remotely from Darwin, where he is undertaking outreach work with vulnerable communities, to talk about the powerful experience of being on Country.
