City of Newcastle is constructing a new skatepark and bowl at South Newcastle Beach, part of the City’s multimillion-dollar improvements to Bathers Way. Professional skateboarder Poppy Starr Olsen weighs in on the project’s significance to local skaters, the design of which she helped shape through the Community Reference Group. City of Newcastle’s Coastal Revitalisation Program Manager Matt Blandford provides an update on the broader project, which commenced in August 2020 and includes the construction of the Bathers Way shared path from Shortland Esplanade to King Edward Park, improved access to South Newcastle Beach, parking, landscaping, lighting and accessibility improvements as well as new fitness equipment and a café/kiosk.
