A Prayer to Celebrate Marriage

View descriptionShare

Ecclesiastes 4:12 declares that a cord of three strands is not quickly broken — and the third strand is God. A union centered on Him is made strong not because the two people are perfect, but because the One who holds them together is. That truth applies in first marriages and second marriages, in long and healthy unions and in the painful process of healing from broken ones. God heals by fortifying faith and placing people firmly within His will. He reframes what threatened to drown us into a time of re-dedication. He answers the prayer for a love that is patient, kind, and rejoices in truth. This episode is a celebration of marriage — not a naive one, but one that has been tested and refined and still believes that when God is at the center, what He joins together holds.

Today's Bible Verse

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."
— Ecclesiastes 4:12, NIV

Ponder Today

  1. A marriage centered on God is made strong by the One who holds it together. The third strand in the cord is not a religious formality — it is the living God whose presence in a union makes it genuinely unbreakable in ways two people alone cannot achieve.
  2. God heals, restores, and reframes even the most devastating relational losses. What threatens to drown us can become, in His hands, a season of profound re-dedication and growth. He does not waste our pain when we bring it to Him honestly.
  3. Singleness between relationships is not a waiting room — it can be sacred ground. Years of walking alone, praying, and re-centering worship on God rather than on an earthly relationship can produce a clarity and a rootedness that becomes the foundation for what comes next.
  4. Marriage is always hard and worthwhile work, cared for by two imperfect people. Celebrating marriage does not mean pretending it is easy. It means believing that two imperfect people, with God at the center, can build something worth the difficulty.
  5. God is fully able to lead you into a healthy union, no matter what you have experienced in the past. His capacity to redeem and restore is not limited by our history. If you sincerely ask Him to guide and provide, He can strengthen your marriage into an unbroken cord.

A Prayer for You Today

Dear God, thank You for the beautiful, holy union of marriage. Thank You for blessing the commitment to love and honor each other forever. You are love. And we are so fortunate that when two join together with You at the center, we can take hold of something stronger than all of us. We can experience what love actually does and what love truly means. May every marriage be blessed by Your leading and refined by Your glorious presence. Amen.
