Kindness seems to be a lost art in our culture today. Although it is promoted a lot, true kindness can only come from the Holy Spirit. Sure, a person can do an act of kindness, but a person can truly only be kind because of the Holy Spirit in life. - Emma Danzey

A Prayer for Kindness

Sometimes exhaustion goes so deep that even turning to God feels like more than the body and spirit can manage. Not a crisis of faith, not a decision to walk away — just a weariness so complete that the simplest prayer becomes a reach too far. Those moments carry a particular kind of shame for believers who expected their faith to hold up better under pressure, who pictured leaning on God looking a little more steady and a little less desperate.

Psalm 9:10 speaks directly into that shame with a promise that does not require perfect faith to claim: the Lord has never forsaken those who seek Him. Those who know His name, who have placed their trust in Him, who have made it their practice to seek Him, will never be left alone. Not even in the moments when they are too broken to look His way. The years of seeking, knowing, and trusting God do not evaporate in a hard season. They become the foundation that holds even when the person standing on it has nothing left. God is not present because our faith looks impressive. He is present because He loves us, because we love Him, and because we belong to Him. The weak, barely-formed prayer, "Jesus, help me," is enough. And on the days when even that is beyond reach, He is still there. His presence is not contingent on our performance. Child of God, you are sealed with the promise of His presence, His salvation, and His grace, always, in every valley, whether you can feel it or not.

Ponder Today
God's presence does not depend on our faith looking or feeling perfect. He is not there because we showed up strong. He is there because we are His and He loves us — and that does not change based on how our faith performs in the hardest moments.
"Jesus, help me" is a complete and sufficient prayer. When exhaustion strips away everything else, the weakest and most honest cry still reaches the One who hears. God does not require eloquence or emotional strength before He responds.
The years of seeking God become the foundation that holds in the seasons when you have nothing left. A history of knowing His name, placing trust in Him, and practicing the discipline of turning toward Him does not disappear in a hard season. It carries you even when you cannot carry yourself.
Feeling forsaken and being forsaken are not the same thing. Psalm 9:10 is a promise, not a feeling. God has never forsaken those who seek Him — not in their strongest moments, and not in their most depleted ones either.
Rest in your weariness without shame. You do not have to pull your faith together before God will show up. He is already there, with His constant care, His continual protection, and His unending, unconditional love — even in the pit.

A Prayer for You Today

Ever-present God, I praise You that You never leave my side. Even when I struggle to sense Your presence in my deepest pain and suffering, You are there. Even when my faith feels far from perfect or I wonder if I am deserving of Your love and care, You are there. Because I am Yours and You are mine, You will never forsake me. I have chosen to seek You, to know You, and to place my trust in You. So no matter what circumstances surround me, I know You will follow me, love me, and forever bless me. Thank You for the great gift of Your constant care and unconditional love. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer to Turn to Jesus When You’re Too Tired

Wild animals carry a raw, simultaneous presence of beauty and danger that is difficult to fully articulate, which is exactly what makes the picture in Isaiah 11 so stunning. A wolf living with a lamb. A leopard resting beside a goat. A little child leading them all. These pairings shatter every assumption we hold about the natural order of things. They are describing something that has never existed in a fallen world. A day is coming when the knowledge of the Lord will fill the earth as the waters cover the sea, and in that day, radical and complete peace will come to all of creation. No more fear, no more power struggle, no more tooth and claw. The everlasting reign of Jesus will bring the peace that every corner of creation has been groaning for. For now, we live in the in-between. We catch glimpses of that coming reality in our friendships with animals, in moments of unexpected beauty in the natural world, and in the steady trust that what is broken is not forever. All shall be well.

Ponder Today
The stunning pairings in Isaiah 11 are meant to shatter our assumptions. Wolf with lamb. Leopard with goat. Child leading them all. God is describing something so far outside our current experience that it can only arrive with the fullness of His knowledge filling the earth.
We live in the in-between of here but not yet. The promise of Isaiah 11 is future, but we are not without glimpses of it now — in the animals we love, in moments of beauty in nature, and in every act of peace and care we extend to the world around us.
The current brokenness of creation is not its final state. Romans 8 tells us that creation itself groans, waiting for redemption. That groan is not hopeless — it is the groan of something that knows restoration is coming.
Waiting faithfully means making the most of opportunities to promote peace right now. We cannot bring Isaiah 11 into full reality, but we can be agents of the peace it describes in the lives and world around us while we wait for the One who will.

A Prayer for You Today

Root of Jesse, Scripture speaks of a coming day when You will rule in peace and righteousness, when the world will be filled with the knowledge of You and all will confess that Jesus is Lord. With Your rule, peace will come to all of creation. I long for this day when wars will cease, humans will live in harmony with Your good creation, and death will die. Right now, I find myself in the in-between of here but not yet. Help me wait in faithfulness, making the most of my opportunities to promote peace in the lives and world around me. May I live with steady trust that the current brokenness of creation is not forever. Peace is coming. And so I trust, in the words of Julian of Norwich, that all shall be well. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer for Those Longing for Peace in Creation

Deuteronomy 20:4 was spoken by Moses, not to one soldier before one battle, but to an entire nation standing at the edge of years of warfare, enemy after enemy, again and again. What the priest was instructed to tell them changes everything: the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you. Not that He will help you fight, or hand you strength for your fight, or cheer from the sidelines. He does the fighting. That distinction matters enormously, because fighting and wrestling are not the same thing. When you wrestle something, your arms are wrapped around it, and you cannot put it down because you are the one holding on. Some of us are not exhausted because our battle is hard. We are exhausted because we are wrestling with something God is already fighting. Moses did not promise the Israelites they would never face the same enemy again. He told them who would be doing the fighting when they did. That is enough.

God does not just help you fight — He is the one who fights. The promise of Deuteronomy 20:4 is not that He will strengthen your grip on the battle. It is that He goes and He fights. That is a fundamentally different posture than the one most of us have been taking.
Fighting and wrestling are not the same thing. When we wrestle a worry, our arms are around it and we cannot put it down because we are the ones holding on. Exhaustion in the Christian life often comes not from hard battles but from wrestling what God is already fighting.
Handing something to God and then taking it back is not failure — it is the pattern we are learning to shorten. The goal is not a perfect record of surrender. It is noticing sooner when our hands are full again and giving it back one more time.
Moses did not promise the Israelites would never face the same enemy twice. He told them who would be doing the fighting when they did. A war that keeps returning does not mean God has stopped showing up. He keeps coming back to fight it.
"This isn't mine" is a complete and sufficient response to a returning worry. You do not need to figure it out, wrestle it into submission, or explain why you picked it up again. Open your hands and give it back. That is the whole move.

A Prayer for You Today

Heavenly Father, here I am with this again — the same thing I brought You last week and the week before. I am honestly tired of listening to myself pray about it. But You knew this would be a long war when You said You would fight it. You promised You would go with me and fight for me. Not once have You declared that I had to win it on my own. Lord, I have had my arms wrapped around something You never handed me, and then wondered why I am exhausted. Forgive me for that. Help me open my hands. When I pick it back up, help me notice sooner. Shorten the distance between grabbing it and giving it back. You are the One who goes and who fights for me. Help me live like that is true. In Jesus' name, Amen.
