WWJ's Laura Bonnell - Women Conductors are growing in numbers

View descriptionShare

The most critical part of an orchestra -- the conductor. As WWJ's Laura Bonnell tells us, most of the conductors are NOT women, but they're growing in number:

The Motor City Symphony Orchestra in Macomb County is wrapping up it’s 46th season Sunday with The Russian Greats under the direction of conductor Gina Provenzano -- one of the few female conductors in Michigan:Provenzano says women are mostly in K-12 school systems and men conduct at the college level because women are caring for children and then male conductors tend to pass on their jobs to their male friends. Provenzano says at her level of conducting there are about five in the Country.
