Method Man called into Atlanta's V-103’s morning show with Big Tigger to talk about the finale of his show Power Book and revealed he’s now pursuing his acting career full-time.
Much like 50 Cent in the original Power tv series, musician-turned-actor Method Man has been a mainstead character on the Power Book II: Ghost series since its pilot episode in 2020. But, as things tend to go in the TV industry, Power Book was canceled with little notice.
Talking with Big Tigger of V-103, Method Man admitted that the cancellation was quite a surprise for everyone. “The biggest twist was us not even knowing that this was the final season, while it was filming,” Method Man said of the series’ end.
But don’t worry -- there are no bad feelings! “It's a beautiful thing because we got four seasons out of this. We were blessed to get that,” the 53-year-old said. Method Man’s mainstead character, Davis MacLean, is a calculated and anti-hero defense attorney who will do whatever it takes to win. “I was very, very pleased at this opportunity,” he noted of the gig, going on to thank his team and those at the STARZ network.
The show’s final season will premiere in two parts this September, but Method Man already has his eyes on what’s next, and sorry Wu-Tang Clan fans, it’s not music!
“I wanted to get into producing. I want to definitely produce this film,” said Method of his next pursuit. “Young and old entrepreneurs, gonna put some of this money together and tell our stories our way.” He went on to address the elephant in the room, and yes, music is officially on the sidelines for him. “As far as the acting, that's my first love now. You know, I'm waiting for any [acting] challenge that comes my way.”
One such challenge Method Man has in mind is to dive into action and adventure. “Honestly, I feel like there is time for another… even just Black superhero or a Black action role, you know what I mean?” he said of his dream role.
“I mean, Method Man sounds like a character all by himself, a superhero” Big Tigger noted, with his cohost Jazzy McBee piping in, “We love to see that!”
“Well sometimes,” Method joked nonchalantly, with the hosts roaring in laughter. He continued, “Did you guys sleep well last night? Did you feel safe? That’s 'cause Method Man fights crime at night.”
You heard it here -- Method Man considers himself an actor first, musician second, and apparently a superhero somewhere in the mix! Listen to the complete interview above.
