V-103's Big Tigger Morning Show: Killer Mike GRAMMYs Exclusive

View descriptionShare

Not quite the stride of pride one would hope to take after winning 3 GRAMMYs, but alas, that’s how the cookie crumbled for Killer Mike, who was handcuffed and escorted by police out of the GRAMMY Awards ahead of Sunday evening’s main telecast.

The three-time new GRAMMY winner joined The Big Tigger Morning Show in Atlanta after leaving his final party in Los Angeles following the big night. “I've been there all day and night,” Mike explains. “I feel good.”

“We swept. That's Atlanta man,” he says of his three big wins over the course of the evening for Best Rap AlbumBest Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance. “We swept it like a broom, man... and we got the one I really coveted -- the 'Best Rap Album' in the 50th year of Hip Hop was run out of Atlanta, Georgia.”

“What you realize is you don't do it by yourself, you do it with a team of people,” Mike adds, shouting out his crew. “It's been one... I wanna shout out to my friends T.I.2 Chainz, who both hit me. The homie Jeezy hit me, man. I appreciate everyone in all of Atlanta.”

Asked what had happened though, referencing his arrest, Mike simply said, “I won... We slide, we partied all night... Ain't nothin’ had happened, man... I looked good. I was fresh. Let me tell you, this was my day.”

After all that went down that we’re not hearing much about, Mike says he was unfazed and doesn’t see the situation as taking away from the big night.

“I don't care. I don't. And we're not even gonna allow you to ask that question,” he said. "We gonna get back to the real question. ‘How did he do it? Three GRAMMYS, 20 years in the game, 48 years old, beat out everybody in the thing, man. He beat the best of the best.’ So, all you can say is he one of the best, the best album in the 50th year of Hip Hop came from Atlanta, Georgia -- from a man who would be 50 years old in three years.”

First to break the news of his arrest, reporter Chris Gardner shared on X Sunday night, that “Rapper Killer Mike has been taken away in handcuffs… after winning 3 GRAMMYs.” The unfortunate situation happened sometime in between the pre-televised award announcements and the main live ceremony.

Chris followed up his initial tweet noting he was seeking any further details and trying to find out why the rapper was taken into police custody, as the reason remained unknown writing, “An official tells someone on his team that it’s possible he may be released later tonight from the arena. Unclear if he’s being booked here and what he’s charged with. Trying to find out.”

Killer Mike won in all three of the categories he was nominated in — Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for his track “Scientists & Engineers,” as well as Best Rap Album for Michael, his sixth studio album released in June 2023.

Like Chris, we also are “trying to find out” what went down.

TMZ reports the GRAMMY winner was arrested for misdemeanor battery, after a private person's arrest took place at Crypto.com Arena. According to their sources, the rapper is accused of knocking down a security officer.
