Dropping by Atlanta’s V-103 studios to discuss his brand new album, Lil Baby chopped it up with Greg Street, about beat selection, Fashion Week, a headlining tour, and more.

When it comes to narrowing down a beat, Lil Baby admitted the process doesn’t always come easy, because most of the producers send him the same beats based on the “Lil Baby sound,” wanting to get a hit, and “I don’t want that,” Baby admittedly expressed.

"So now I’m tryin’ to tell them, send me somebody else beats… don’t send me the one’s you’ve been wanting to send Baby. Send me the one’s you was gonna send Jack Harlow or anybody else… not Baby.”

“I got something to say no matter what,” Baby noted, so why not try something different.

With his third album, It’s Only Me, Baby admitted, “This album was me becoming this new person.” Adding, “and by the time I drop the next album, I’ll be a new person,” so though the tracklist was extensive, with a total of 22 songs, Baby new it was now or never if those songs were ever going to see the light of day.

Talking about his Fashion Week experience, Baby admitted, “at first I wasn’t even into clothes,” pointing out he wears a “jumpsuit everyday.” But more recently since trying “to tap into the fashion side… I like that vibe a whole lot. I can see me at a lot of Fashion Weeks from now on.”

After breaking down what a week with Lil Baby looks like, in both busy and more chill times. As well as how his investing skills have improved since 2017, going form keeping his money in a shoe box to a Swiss bank account, Greg and Baby got into what his ultimate dream show would be. “Well I’m about to do the World Cup,” Baby shared, “But I wanna do the Super Bowl… that’s like the ultimate performance for me.”

Having “always had a camera man from the start,” the natural progression for Baby was to come out with a documentary. Fast forward to 2022, and the release of, Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby. And while he admitted, “it’s not all the footage,” that could have made it in due to having different camera men throughout the years, he’s learned his lesson and now makes whoever has the job, “I get em to give my my footage at the end of the week.”

For those holding out for a Lil Baby headlining tour, you’ll be glad to hear he plans on fulfilling those dreams, “for sure next summer.” As for the rest of this year, the plan is to “ride out the album… and then next year I’m right back at it.”

Speaking of future plans, when asked what he sees for the future of Atlanta, Baby said, “I see Atlanta being the new Hollywood,” when it comes to movies, entertainment. But more than that he sees a flourishing housing market, “one of those rich places,” where the houses “keep going up and up and up.”

One important way to make sure both of those visions come true, is by doing your research and voting in local elections. And with the current movement of inspiring young men to vote and get involved in local politics, Baby offered up his advice, about “the importance of looking into and what you’re voting for and who you’re voting for, it really matters.”

"What people don’t understand, I know people don’t understand, cause I never was taught this. It’s like we actually do have more power than we think. The stuff that we complaining about, that we can get together and vote for, we can get it changed. We got power, but you gotta vote to be able to get this power.”

Greg and Baby’s conversation continued from there, to catch it all check out the entire interview above.
