Guest: Dr. Daniel Morganstern, Breast Cancer Sub-specialist at Starling Physicians
Subject: Treatment to prevent hair loss due to chemotherapy. Dr. Morganstern says Starling Physicians is the first practice in the Hartford area to offer scalp-cooling technology that helps patients keep their hair. The Paxman Personal Cap cools the scalp to between 64 and 71 degrees and has been clinically proven to reduce blood flow to the area around the hair follicles resulting in less chemotherapeutic drug being delivered to the hair follicles. He says the new technology does not depend on dry ice or the patient’s efforts but has its own electric-powered cooling device resembling an overhead hair dryer. He says he treatment will require the patient to remain for an additional 30 minutes before and 90 minutes after treatment.
