Jodi Gibson is a writer, blogger, teacher, mentor and author of 2 soon to be released novels. She writes across genres catering to both the classic commercial women's fiction reader as well as the people who like a light rom com.
After years of dealing with traditional publishing, Jodi was coming across more obstacles than open doors but the response to her writing told her not to give up. So she bet on herself instead of asking others to and took the entrepreneurial step many writers are taking nowadays, to self publish her work.
In this episode Jodi speaks candidly to Pam about making the decision to believe in herself and just go for it in the Indie Publishing game. Then Pam openly discusses with Kel, the stress and pain that came with facing the same choice herself and what that choice has meant for her since.

Jodi Gibson "Going Indie"

Today's episode features rural romance author Renae Black, and is all about getting your debut novel published. Renae is the author of Red Dirt Home, published by HQ Harper Collins. Renae Black's family stretches back at least three generations of farmers on both her mum and dad's side. She spent her formative years growing up on a property north of Wagga New South Wales, that bred cattle and hosted the odd ostrich sale. 

A qualified social worker, Renae has spent the last decade working in the child protection. By night, she escapes into the romantic rural fiction stories that she writes. In 2023, Renae won the RWA Sapphire Award for best unpublished manuscript by a published author. Her first novel, On the Downlow, was published by Escape in digital format, and Red Dirt Home has recently been released in all formats.

It's a heartfelt, deeply emotional story about finding home, facing the past, and falling in love. Pam chats to Renae about writing the novel, the difficulties of sensitively portraying sexual assault, and the steps she took that resulted in a publishing contract.

Lauren Chater is the author of the historical novels The Lace Weaver, Gulliver's Wife and The Winter Dress. Her latest book, The Beauties is a seductive story of rivalry, artistic passion and a woman bold enough to use her beauty as a weapon.

It's a dual timeline, multiple point of view narrative set in the seventeenth century written in Lauren's beautiful prose style, and meticulously weaving fact and fiction.

In this episode Pamela chats to Lauren about the inspiration for the book, her writing process, developing a sense of self as a writer and how she incorporates writing into her life. It's a great conversation that will appeal to both readers and writers.

Writing Historical Fiction: Lauren Chater, The Beauties

Jenna Lo Bianco is a writer, educator, PhD Candidate, and advocate for Italian language education in Australia. She is the author of the newly released contemporary fiction title, The Italian Marriage, the first of three books all set in Italy.

With nearly 60 publications to her name, Jenna is trusted nationally and internationally to write about all things ‘Italian’. She is a Fellow of the International Specialised Skills Institute and Italian Australian Foundation, regular contributor to Segmento Magazine, and has written and consulted in educational publishing for more than a decade.

A romantic at heart, Jenna writes contemporary romances set in Italy that read like a fictional slice of ‘la dolce vita’, but are steeped in candour and truths – both the convenient and inconvenient – drawing upon her personal life experiences in Italy, and her intimate knowledge of the Italian language and culture.

She may appear to live in Melbourne, but her heart and soul are Rome’s most permanent residents.

In this episode Jenna chats to guest host Laura Boon about strategising to get a book deal, writing what she loves and infusing her stories with her own experiences.
