Unsung Heroes: Hopes For The Future - Paul D. Lowe & Paul Kelly

View descriptionShare

In this episode, Paul invites back returning guest, Paul Kelly, to discuss their hopes for the future - the things we must begin to see and create as a society, and why hope itself plays such a huge part in shaping the world of tomorrow.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Labels are often given to us in our formative years, and can have an effect on the way the world sees us. We must seek to see the person, and not the label.
  • Hope keeps us on the straight line towards our destiny. It is the driving force that allows us to dream bigger.
  • As we grow, we come to learn that holding onto negativity breeds nothing but more negativity. it soon strangles optimism and hope.
  • We must look after ourselves, but we must also do our part to take care of the planet. Ask ourselves if we can make a positive difference each day, and the world will have no choice but to change for the better.

BEST MOMENTS

'I wonder if "PR" got more publicity than "PK"...'

'If we can't label it, we're fearful of it'

'If you haven't got hope, what have you really got?'

'Holding on to negativity is like plating weeds in the garden'

ABOUT THE GUEST

Paul’s young parents divorced before he started primary school, resulting in him and his mother going to live with his loving grandparents.  From starting primary school, Paul was always a keen sportsman, excelling at swimming, football, chess and cricket, and after establishing himself as a regular in the Nottinghamshire (UK) cricket set-up, his grandmother decided to give Paul the opportunity to go to a private school to play his beloved sport; something he continued in Australia.

On his return to England, Paul was attacked after a night out and hospitalised, suffering temporary blindness, a double fractured skull and memory loss.  After 10 days in a coma, he awoke and started to try and rebuild his life; but encountering severe depression, suicidal thoughts, paranoia and heavy drinking binges.  With the help of family, the NHS, friends, and cricket friends, step-by-step, Paul began the road to recovery and happiness – a 25-year roller-coaster journey.
