Since Covid I’ve encountered more students whose emotional development has been hampered by the emotional disconnect f not being able to see friends. Talking to someone online is not the same as talking to someone face-to-face. People struggled with Covid and children struggled more than we could ever imagine and the aftermath is devastating.
It’s like a transition from fear to love: People are scared of the unknown, and once they realise there can be a better life they’re almost scared to go there. You can, you just need someone there to help you through all the steps.

Paul’s young parents divorced before he started primary school, resulting in him and his mother going to live with his loving grandparents.

From starting primary school, Paul was always a keen sportsman, excelling at swimming, football, chess and cricket, and after establishing himself as a regular in the Nottinghamshire (UK) cricket set-up, his grandmother decided to give him the opportunity to go to a private school to play his beloved sport, something he continued in Australia.

On his return to England, Paul was attacked after a night out and hospitalised, suffering temporary blindness, a double fractured skull and memory loss. After ten days in a coma, he awoke and started to try and rebuild his life; however, he encountered severe depression, suicidal thoughts, paranoia, and heavy drinking binges.

10 Green Bottles Standing On The Wall: Recycling & Environmental Impact

On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast Paul continues his conversation with Nelson Perez, this time focussing on the books he’s written and why he wrote them.

I had a couple of purposes as to why I wrote my first book, ‘Heart of a Cuban’ which I wrote under my initials so my family back home in Cuba weren’t persecuted. The first was that I wrote it for my grandkids so that they know who they are and where they come from. I also wrote it for someone only knows rum, salsa dancing, antique cars and beautiful women come from Cuba. Cuba is much more than that and it’s important to know how we got here.
I still have nightmares about witnessing my grandfather get executed in front of me when I was a child. Putting my story out there takes it from the back of your mind, puts it up front and you get to release a lot of that anger and hostility that you’ve held inside.
I was ghost writing a story for a fellow once and was corroborating his story with historical facts by talking to several people including his mum. His mum gave me a 180-degree different story from one he had told me. It’s amazing how two people can see one incident totally differently, no doubt what they both told me was correct in their minds, in the end I think they were both wrong!
You always have to have music and flowers in the house every day, otherwise it’s not a home. Every morning I try to sit and drink coffee and listen to Cuban jazz, it sets you on the right tone for the day.

<li aria-level="1">I had a couple of purposes as to why I wrote my first book, ‘Heart of a Cuban’ which I wrote under my initials so my family back home in Cuba weren’t persecuted. The first was that I wrote it for my grandkids so that they know who they are and where they come from. I also wrote it for someone only knows rum, salsa dancing, antique cars and beautiful women come from Cuba. Cuba is much more than that and it’s important to know how we got here.</li>
<li aria-level="1">I still have nightmares about witnessing my grandfather get executed in front of me when I was a child. Putting my story out there takes it from the back of your mind, puts it up front and you get to release a lot of that anger and hostility that you’ve held inside.</li>
<li aria-level="1">I was ghost writing a story for a fellow once and was corroborating his story with historical facts by talking to several people including his mum. His mum gave me a 180-degree different story from one he had told me. It’s amazing how two people can see one incident totally differently, no doubt what they both told me was correct in their minds, in the end I think they were both wrong!</li>
<li aria-level="1">You always have to have music and flowers in the house every day, otherwise it’s not a home. Every morning I try to sit and drink coffee and listen to Cuban jazz, it sets you on the right tone for the day.</li>
