Ignorance over the years has come to mean someone who is despised. But it’s also a choice, a deliberate act. You can choose to get involved in what’s going on in the US election, for example, form an opinion, change your mind, look again, or if you think it’s too demanding for your soul you can choose to think whatever happens over there happens and I have no influence.


What is impossible to know when you’re 18 is how you body is going to be and how you are going to be physically. When you’re older we can all look back and think I wish I’d taken a bit more care or done some things differently.

Looking back on my life it’s been a history of mostly bad mistakes. The thing I’d like to talk about is that I wish I’d paid attention to just how right my mother was when she would criticise and guide me away from the easy way.
Growing up, it was a fault of mine, I looked for the way out, the get-rich scheme, the way to jump the queue and get ahead without all the hard work. My mother constantly repeated – and she was right – that all of that was pissing away effort, time and money and that instead, the easy way is not the easy way and that it doesn’t work by and large, and that if you put the effort into doing something positive and work on it, in the end, it will be much quicker. Ultimately that paid off and I have changed my life quite a bit realising my mother’s wisdom.
Choose something important to you, that you really like, want and need to do and pour your effort into that and master the toolsets that you need to acquire to achieve that. That’s where you need to focus your energy and your time, not on the easy way or route that people are promising results instantly, that’s bullshit.
We’re fed the idea that wealth is the key to success and achievement. From one perspective, it can be. There are some people who highly value the opinion of others; they’re stuck in that materialistic paradigm. I learned that the world’s opinion matters very little in your personal life. The materialistic game that so many of us are taught to play is a rigged game that does not lead to happiness.

T M Hoy is a happiness expert, but he came by it at great cost and through unthinkable hardship. When Marc says: “What is happiness? Where does it come from, and how do you get it?” you should know it’s a question he’s had the time to consider... a lot of time to consider. In 1995 Marc returned from an overnight business trip to his home in Thailand to find a panicked house guest and a dead person on the floor between them. His choices: go immediately to the police and turn his friend in for the murder he’d committed or help his friend cover up the murder and pray it was never discovered. <li>We’re fed the idea that wealth is the key to success and achievement. From one perspective, it can be. There are some people who highly value the opinion of others; they’re stuck in that materialistic paradigm. I learned that the world’s opinion matters very little in your personal life. The materialistic game that so many of us are taught to play is a rigged game that does not lead to happiness.</li>
