This week on Womanity-Women in Unity, in our series on women in medicine, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to Dr Kavita Makan who is a Rheumatologist and specialist physician at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

She is also the clinical head of the Medical Covid-19 Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital and current President of the South African Rheumatism and Arthritis Association.

We highlight the fact that women are more susceptible to autoimmune disorders within the spectrum of rheumatic diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

We discuss women in leadership and some of the strategies employed to uplift the morale of healthcare practitioners working on the frontline in the face of Covid-19 breakouts.
