This week we talk to Ms Cheryl Kay Spencer, the High Commissioner of Jamaica to 19 countries in Southern and East Africa. We discuss her career in foreign affairs and some of the responsibilities in her current role, such as debunking myths and misconceptions of Jamaica, expanding trade relations, elevating sports activities and promoting cultural relations between South Africa and Jamaica. We address gender equality interventions such as quality education for girls and adolescent females, teaching women to be economically productive and independent, promoting women’s rights, enacting gender legislation, and the need for male champions to support and push the agenda for gender equality.
