This week on Womanity – Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to Professor Feroza Motara, who is the Head of Emergency Medicine at Wits University and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. Our conversation highlights some of the new realities facing healthcare practitioners in the era of COVID-19, from logistical changes to protecting staff and patients. We consider some of the traits that female leaders have applied to manage the COVID-19 pandemic and other situations; noting characteristics of practicality, empathy and transparency and their tendency to make decisions that are in the best interest of people. We also remark on the duty of female leaders to mentor younger women to help them navigate their respective career paths. We reflect on the need to instil self-worth amongst girls to help them foster the belief that they have the potential to be anything they want. We highlight the value of education in the hands of women to help elevate the socio-economic conditions of themselves and their families. Tune in for more…
