This week on Womanity-Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Candith Mashego-Dlamini. We discuss the Department’s vision for an African continent that is prosperous, peaceful, democratic, non-racial, non-sexist and united and which contributes to a world that is just and equitable. We consider some of the programmes that are in place to support women. We discuss the African Continental Free Trade Area as a flagship project of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, to boost intra-Africa trade and enhance Africa’s industrialisation prospects. For example, developing capability to manufacture medical supplies from medication to equipment. We also discuss the development and economic costs of menstruation from the perspective of a) have access to sanitary protection and b) the expense of these items, noting how some markets have made these products exempt from tax, and other countries like New Zealand and Scotland offer these items free of charge.
