West Salem Village Administrator Teresa DeLong said on La Crosse Talk the municipality’s proposal to purchase 10 acres from La Crosse County is the first of two purchase offers that will occur before their agreement with La Crosse County expires at the end of the year.
DeLong said the $250,0000 purchase utilizes their first right to purchase that has been in place for about 15 years.
The land is known as the County Farm. The West Salem Village Administrator says all purchases follow the plan developed for the area. The new development is then part of the Lakeview Business Park.
At that point, the County can sell the land to anyone without the West Salem Village getting first rights. All projects need to come to the Village Board for zoning approval.
The purchase before the County Board is an additional property to be owned by Kenrich Foods, for a future expansion.
The administrator revealed there is a second property likely to be purchased before the end of the year, which is when their first right to purchase would expire.
