UW-L's Chergosky on a Brewers beer vendor for governor, La Crosse's mayor pushing city admin and Raising Cane's opening

View descriptionShare

A Raising Cane’s is set to open, a Brewers beer vendor is running for governor and the La Crosse mayor might be pushing a vote on hiring a city administrator.

UW-La Crosse political science professor, Dr. Anthony Chergosky, in studio to hit on those topics, plus some Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers’ veto on gig workers — like Uber drivers.

WIZM’s Brad Williams also popped to start the show and talked about how the Valley View Mall area is going to see some added traffic Tuesday with Raising Cane’s opening and how that stretch, in general, always gets these new businesses — Chipotle, Crumbl Cookie, Five Guys and Chick-Fil-A.

We then got into the possibility of La Crosse Mayor Shaundel Washington-Spivey pushing a vote on hiring a city administrator, not bringing it to a referendum and who the admin would be beholden to — who could fire them. We also discussed whether there was already a referendum on this position just based on the city council and mayor election results, as the last council pushed this hiring off until February.

Lastly, we talked about the newest candidate for Wisconsin governor, a Milwaukee Brewers beer vendor, Ryan Strnad, and could he be the guy who unites Wisconsin. And finished off the show talking about a Republican bill Evers vetoed on gig workers that would have reclassified them as independent contractors and exempted them from benefits like retirement accounts, health insurance and workers’ compensation laws.
