Dog Day Afternoon with Christian and Scooby

Published Jun 2, 2023, 9:06 PM

Rafa and Joe G were joined by one of the greatest halftime acts of all-time -- Christian and Scooby -- not long before they took the stage for Game 1 of the NBA Finals to talk about the act's history, Christian's training methods and whether the guys can one day realize their dream of a monkey halftime.

I know your dress, looking at you, and you look you look calm.

Love blowouts.

I love to blow out.

Osben got it.

Jilly Osburn has a career high.

Twenty nine voice eleven of twelve from the field, eighty perfect seven of seven from Long Rain.

Now you're talking about feeling it. He is beyond feeling it. Now he's he's in another time though.

It's broadcasting live is from Rocket Mortgage field House on the sunny shores of beautiful Lake Erie.

In the gut Am getting my lord your central I'm getting to mano sweat pastor say three pleasant and not chipta.

In downtown Cleveland. Hello, hello YouTube, Men to Wine and Gold Radio.

Let me get that chase, let me get that taste.

Now you're your host.

The.

White breaking the toast dry nothing only Rafa and the other one wants.

Four hole fried chickens and a coke and Joji. My goodness, yayy everybody, and welcome to Wine and Gold Radio. We are in a Cadence rom I can't believe we're keeping it you in the off season.

It's really weird. I'm impressed with us. Can I say something? This is tan Cadence. Look at the tan Joji got on? Man, am I are you going to like a Pannings alone.

Or the natural Rosita walking the day?

No, I'm saying I'm bronzing.

So now you can be part of the brown community.

Oh man, I am Joji, I am a tan Joji. He Isnandez Brito right the right? How did I do?

How did I do that?

You're good? Do your do you have to roll the brito? Just Brito Britoto normal? Do your other podcasts hosts care about pronouncing your name?

Right?

They just butcher and I feel bad to say something.

So before we went on the air, I gotta tell everybody now I have the kiss song. I was made for loving you in my head, and so does everybody in the studio right now, because we saw Kisses coming to the Field Rocket Mortgage field House. Yeah, so that's gonna be exciting. Were you in the kiss when you were a kid?

No, I was not.

I was actually annoyed by all my friends who used to paint their faces for Halloween, and he wasn't creative at all, and I wasn't really much into their music.

I tell you funny story. Remember the platinum album?

Yes, of course, Well, my aunt had the great idea to she was she was living here in the US. I was still back home when the album came out. Remember the THELP were red, they were in black el Peace. So my brother had requested the album. Of course, Benjamin Leone was like a kiss fan that tells you everything, and and I had asked.

For something else, and of course they didn't bring me that.

So my aunt had the great idea to like bring it to the two of us, and Benjamin and I weren't even though.

We were forced to hang out together when we were kids. We were only like a year and.

So apart, you guys, but we didn't really get along well. So one time I'm listening to my half and he wouldn't let me listen to his half, right, So I'm listening to his half one one time and he comes into the music room, you know, my father had a music room and how and he's like, well, you know, why are you listening to my album? So take take that off. You can't play my album. So he took it off that the player turntable, and of course we started arguing. And my first reaction when he was beating the crap out of me, is like to reach out and I pulled slid his LP right into the base of the drum. The what do you call it English, the bumbo, the big the big bass, Yeah, the base and he then shattered into pieces. So that was the end of the second side of the platinum. You know, I didn't like kiss.

This is why you're the black sheep of the you know, I like that.

I'm the psychedelic sheep. I was in all colors. I wasn't the black. I invented the next level of black sheep.

I always wish people, because you know, we visit your folks house every year when we play Sacramento. I wish people could see the difference the childhood photos, then garden photos of all Rafa's siblings and then Rafa you can just tell, like that's the bad one.

You know, that's the demon seed right now.

My parents, you know, we're the first generation who actually graduated from high school.

We get about college.

So they're always very proud of my brothers, I must say, brothers and sisters. They were all a little different than I was a Victorian.

In the classes.

You know.

I went to Ivy League school and got like, have all these amazing jobs and amazing families and everything. So my parents always had a picture of us of them in graduation and the tie and the diploma underneath, and and of course it was my oldest brother, like all beautiful picture, my my sister, the nice picture of my second brother and mine. But I was a little bit under the influence on my graduation day.

So you were a lot under the influence. I've seen that for my picture wasn't you were a mess man.

It actually made my parents, who like reconsider what they were putting on display because my picture wasn't really there the good one.

You're a new since Hey, welcome to Winey Gold Radio. Hey we're joined for the second show in a row with our by our roady Nicole. Yeah right, I know we have a roady. Yeah, take that feeder and Hayden. Our roadie is ten times better than they still got it another thing than you and me. I got a road what's that they each have a roady, We only have Nicole. And we have to talk about our special guests that we have today. We've been talking halftime. We talk halftime almost every show, and today we have the best, the actual half. Yeah, maybe the best halftime show. Really the best halftime show in the NBA Christian and Scooby.

I mean, we could be better if he had a monkey.

Well, we're going to get to that. But we're definitely going to get to that.

We got to get one of those monkeys that that Ac always talked about. When we went to Brazil.

It was like a squirrel monkey, squirrel monkey to write Scooby, because we can get a real, an actual monkey to write Wow Heavy. That's the thing.

We need to talk to an actual expert about. Yeah, monkey size and things like that, because I told you I saw that movie Nope, and chimpanzees are totally forbidden the Wow well because one in that movie and also in real life they could go nuts and tear somebody apart. You have to be careful about that. Like you can't have a gorilla. You can't have money.

No no, no no no, not a gorilla.

But I'm just saying you can't have something too dangerous. That's the that's the key. You can't have.

I like the one that I sent us an idea, the ones that ride the border coalis right, like they.

Have little monkeys that ride dogs. That's a great one. But you can't have anything that could turn vicious. So anyway, so we're gonna have Christian and Scoobyan. There isn't much cash talk going on right now other than I guess the draft at the end of the end of the month last Thursday in June, we have the forty ninth pick, which I guess people aren't too super excited about. But I checked through just the forty ninth picks in this century, the twenty first century. I went through and I looked Isaiah Mobley think can be I think what number was he forty nine? I think I think that kid could turn into a rotational big man.

Needs to get the opportunity and get this to get them inity.

But again, you look at the Miami Heat and you see they have G League guys that they convert into pros man and yeah.

But I want to see them do it three four years in a row. Well supposed to, because remember remember they had Kendrick Nunn a couple of years ago, right.

Yeah, I know, But I mean again, I just think, Isaiah, Let's let's see what he can do. Isaiah Isaiah Joe from Okay see Leon Poe former cavalier Leon Poe, Celtic guy Okay, good player. James Jones champ Ooh nice, nice shooter. He was in Lebron's draft picks two thousand and three. Jason Hart, head coach of the G League Knite. Jason Jason Hart, Jason Well, Jason Hart, the coach of the G League Knite and the Joker, probably the best player in the NBA right now. Forty one overall, right, and then don't forget about me. Back in twenty sixteen with the forty third tick.

In the twenty sixteen NBA Draft, the Houston Rockets select Joe Chi Yochi from sin Chong, China.

He last played for the shin Jiong Flying Tigers in China.

Yeah, okay, so Joe Chi is.

The opposite of a point guard. He's seven to huh, a little bit different. So what this is the guy?

You really like?

Fram Well, I like saying his nickname dom Mo.

Wong's the big Devil kids from I like the way from for Chila.

Answer.

I don't think he was like willing to go into the Yeah, I really like this guy. He was like, Well, I like his nickname.

I know Frand knew I was going to be a bust right there. I could tell That.

Has to be one of my highlights of my road adventures with the Calves. When I finally got when you met Joji and Chi Cho to meet.

When you it was like you could hear we are the world playing When me and Joji he hooked up in Houston at one time, that was, of course beautiful moment.

The whole Chinese media contingency was like shocked to see that they were actually fans of Joe Chi at the Houston game.

I should have stuck with the Flying Tigers. Man, I've been a bust in the NBA. Hey, man, why are we talking draft? Why what do we got this guy here for.

The Golden They welcome up to thording his west Eugenia Monconee.

Well, he's sporting something quarter have to dog him about.

Is that?

Is that?

All?

Is not?

Yeah, it's not even it's not even close.

Yeah, what the hell was that? A mullet? You're breaking one and gold promises here?

I know you know what you got right now? What is the mullet? It's called what the party and.

The Friday in the front. Business in the front, party.

All You've got his business in the front. There's no party in the back at all.

Party.

No No, I know, I think, uh, I think I feel like we talked about it for so long, like me getting one, and then all of a sudden the season ended, and I'm like, well, I'm not just gonna go like walking around the offices or whatever with the mullet for a certain amount of time, so I.

Just need to cut it.

So I did, and I was like, I don't really you know, I don't really want to deal with the long hair anymore. So I know, I apologize for the disappointment, but.

It mattered some phillips and anything to do with it.

But we were talking about how monitors Joji's Twitter no no, no money on the mullet.

I mean, there were a.

Couple there were a couple of people on on you know, on the on the marketing team or digital team that were like, you should have done it, you should have got it.

But yeah, I mean, I'm I'm disappointed. I think Ralph is disappointed. But what's worse, Luke Travers, you've let us down.

I know, he said he sent me a text, But I still like, I still might go through with like the barbed wire tattoo on my foreum, so you know, maybe we could get even.

So, what does the computer team do now that the season there's no really.

Yeah yeah, I mean, of course, like you guys were just talking about, the draft is at the end of the month, and we'll have you know, some draft content and you know, over the next couple of weeks. But right now we're we're deep into what we're calling our player week series. We're content both on webin app and then on social as well, and we're just going week by week and we're focusing on a couple of different players.

When you when are you going to have like a beat Rider week series or like, uh, broadcaster, there's week series.

I know there was, I don't I don't remember what it was one or one or two summers ago. I think there was some sort of like I think they called it like Creators Week or content Creators Week or something, and one of the weeks they focused on like the graphic design team, and then I don't.

Really know, very creative by the way, but I don't really know.

That's not sure, that is not sure.

I don't really know like what was after that, But you know, I thought, like, you know, the team that I was on, we get we get you know, a little love no, but no, So I don't know if it was just like, uh, you know, something they tried and it kind of flamed out.

But yeah, computer team, we get no respect. Really, Rodney Dangerfield to the company, Yeah Muchacha, What do you got for us?

Man?

I mean you kind of talked about it, you know, a little bit already. But the finals are starting. Game one is is Thursday, and the day we're recording is Thursday. So I guess and I and I think I know the answer for you guys, because you're you know, basketball fans of course, working in the NBA and everything. But does the teams that are playing in the finals, not necessarily this year, but across the board, do the teams playing in the finals matter to you? Like are you gonna watch regardless and be excited regardless or would you record?

Yes?

Yes, I in any championship game or series, I like a good guy and a bad guy.

That's for me. I need a villain. I need to Miami.

You think for me for sure? I mean I'm sharing it again that I don't know.

But you want those announcers to bring that ring?

Okay, so now you're talking the court? Yeah, yeah, I go Denver.

Do you want to do you want those just stick it in your face again.

Yeah, but you know, I don't know if you'd marks the beginning or the end or it's is just in between of an era. But we don't have those dynasty teams right now, you know, with the Warriors going down, with you know, the Lakers and on the East really really hasn't been a dominant team after after we went to fourth straight finals. But Denver has been the best team all year long. I don't care that Milwaukee won twenty whatever in a row that they did, and they have the best record and everything, but to me, the best team this year.

Has been the Denver Nuggets. Hands down.

It was the best team with the best player.

I think the system, best game, best team, AF four, best everything, you know, And I think you have a group of guys in Miami, and you were talking about the undrafted guys and all this, but they're having in as a group like the year of their lives. When you talk about Max Strus, when you talk about Gay Vincent, when you talk about Kaylen Martin, who should have been the m v P.

I have a beef with with Jimmy.

Yeah, Jimmy, well, Jimmy Newton hasn't really been like ah but he but yeah. But on the other side, you have guys that are playing what they're capable of. I don't think you're getting anything next to from coward Pope. That's that's what he That's what he can do, right, that's what he is or or what's his name Brown, Bruce Brown, Bruce Brown and Porter Junior or sometimes he's on, sometimes he's I think that the Nuggets with Mylan and at the head of the thing, they've just been really good and fun to watch too. I mean, I want the Joker to win the MVP of the Finals. I wanted to win the title so he can shove it to Screaming A Smith and everybody else that that that didn't vote for him for MVP.

I mean, I want him. I just want him, so I just want him to have it so you know, he can put it in a Bead's face. No, I'm not the biggest in Bead fan.

I don't know, but I'm not.

I'm not picking too much of MBIs because he had nothing to do with it. That more than all the ex players in media that really I have never seen, and I know we're in the era of social media and all that. But I have never seen a media paying for somebody to win one of those titles.

Is it?

Is it just because he won the last two and they're like, oh, let's.

Change it up, but that's yeah, Or.

You know he can win three in a row because only Will Chamberline, he's not he's breaking all the Will's records. Yeah, in the postseason.

Yeah, So I mean is I don't know.

I feel like it's the same thing that happened, you know, what was happening with Lebron and even Jordan, Like you can't and.

You give the same guy the m v P every single.

Year if he is. I don't think there's.

Much, but maybe they'll say there is, like jokers fatigue, like you voter fatigue.

What do you you both think Denver wins?

Yes, I think so. I think I don't think that it's like a walk in the park.

And I don't think, you know, like both teams are just one one ankle twist away from from everything changing, right, But I don't.

I don't see how Miami.

Can do you think I probably know the answer, but that your answer doesn't change. If Tyler hero plays at all does it.

No, I don't think, because I don't think. I don't. I think the Celtics lost because they just go to make shots, right, Oh my god. I don't think Denver is gonna go three for thirty one.

Yeah, they made like seven. Boston made seven threes over game six and seven.

I don't think that was you know.

And and Miami hasn't been able to win at home consistently in the playoffs. The Nuggets are on defeated at home, and so I don't know, it's not a walk in the park, but I think Denver should be hanging with I.

Think Denver takes game one too, even after not playing for a week and a half in Miami coming out.

You know, Miami of course just played.

But I was thinking about those times when we were going in the final, we were sweeping everybody, and it wasn't really.

Like an issue. The time off. Yeah, no, they all spend it well. They all know what to do, right.

You get you get, you get your body healthy.

You know.

I don't think they got I don't think they'll fall out of a rhythm. They don't seem to be that type of team. I mean, they're two well coached and like you said, their system is great, so no, I think I think the laft will mean nothing to them.

And our next guest is actually going to be doing the halftime show's the game one. That's great time if you're going to be joining us from them.

But he's actually gonna be only believe it or not only his second finals game. We'll talk to him about it. But the other one was here in Cleveland, you know what, you know what I have to ask him what the what his game day is like? Do you think Scooby is taking a napp right now?

Yeah?

And the players do it.

The players get I wonder like Scooby's gotta getting nervous and like pacing around.

And well, now he's Scooby and Milo. Now he's two dogs because he Scooby does the show, you know, which is.

No person He does the halftime show, and Milo the little one who is really not ready for prime time.

That's the dunking Okay, okaying that time now, so it's it's actually.

Christian and Person.

Yeah, but he kept the name Scooby. Cooby was the original.

Okay, Percy Person is the one doing the show, the halftime show when now, all right, we'll get and by the way, I like that mascot in them.

He's kind of crazy Rocky. Yeah.

They have a statue statue to him outside. Yeah he's crazy though, he's really athletic. He's really good and he has like a have you ever seen him with his mini Rocky hit? Yeah, a little version.

But he's cool.

And a woman that used to work here at the Cavs knows him personally and says he's the great.

Well he the father was one of the guys that was one of our mascots for a time. Who is now? I think the probably that little who is now the mascot at the Pistons.

I believe, okay, we leve, we love it, Like are we outing these people or said anything?

You haven't said any that's true.

So he's many and I hope that people don't really think it's a dog out there when the window comes out.

Many who many Hooper? Who wants macked on our pr girl and.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah that one. But I don't think it was that Hooper.

Okay, yeah, I got that horse was a dog. Speaking of dogs. Speaking of dogs, let's uh, let's pause for a foot second and uh we'll be right back with our special guest, Christian and Scooby and Percy and my love.

Hey, it's Moondog, your favorite Cavalier puppet mascot and global icon. As a rule, I never say that. I never say never, but that said, I never ever listened.

For one.

There's more of this. I said, oh can we sit out? Said why? I said, I can't feel my left leg.

After this on Wine and Gold Radio.

Another Golden Wheat.

Sing it Jimmy singing.

Come on now, no.

Cock?

What is great lyrics?

That's great lyrics?

The worst that they were too bad. I can't understand them when you're singing.

Alright, this is Brad Darty, former Capital near legend. Oh my goodness. And I never listened to Wine and Go nowhere.

Now back to Wine and Gold Radio.

That was delicious. All right, Welcome back to the Wine and Gold Radio Radio and rap. We have a special guest this week. I know, man a budget for the offseason. I've been man, We're we're we're really yeah, we're really broken it here in the offseason, we have to welcome the halftime act, maybe the d half, the best half act, the best halftime act in the NBA. Christian and Scooby Christian, Welcome to Wind to Go Radio.

Man.

Well, thanks guys, thanks for having us on. Scooby doesn't have much to say, but I'll definitely have a lot to say, so I'm happy to be here with you guys.

So you're joining us from Denver and you guys are doing Game one of the NBA Finals.

That right, That is correct?

So yeah, you know at this point, our friends, they're not even they're more than friends. Our family from Denver, we've worked here for you know, I can't even count how many, but a lot of years, just like our family over in Cleveland, which actually Cleveland and Denver are the only two teams that we worked the Finals game with, so this is super exciting.

But yeah, they reached out to us.

We've known for a couple of weeks, but you know, we didn't know what they were coming because the Celtics were making it interesting. So it was kind of funny up but stressful the to not know when we were coming here. But we're here, we're excited and we're super pumped.

Obviously, make sure Scooby paces himself because of the altitude, you know, yeah.

I know, right, Yeah, No, he's fine. Yeah, he's a he's an all that he's used to it.

We were talking about this and I know we know players and we have some kind of like pregame routine.

What do you do?

Are we like ruining you nap time or or what? What what does Christian and Scooby and Milow do now with you know, on game day?

Yeah, So for for the boys, for Percy and Milo, who are essentially the Scoobies on stage.

Obviously they perform as the stage name Scooby.

But for them, I feel like, whether it's a game there or non game there, their routine doesn't change. They just snap all day and then it's it's Milo's it's on his watch whenever he decides he wants to play, because he's the very playful one. So then when we start here the little squeaky noises, we know that he's decided that it's time for him to play right right now.

But yeah, they don't. They don't have much of a routine during the day.

When we do get to the arena though, they've kind of gotten like now they understand like, Okay, we're in an arena.

I think they know what's going on, like and then they kind of know the routine.

I usually like let them out to do their business outside, usually right around tip off, so they get that out the way. But uh yeah, for them, I think they're just they get super excited when we get in there. Out For me, sometimes I not, but I don't like to. As a performer, we are, and I'm sure like you guys perform on the radio as well. You you fall into, you know, like creatures of habit. I purposely try to break the habits because I don't want it to ever be like, oh my god, I didn't get my nap today, I'm gonna have a bad show type mentality. So I actually during the days, you know, I'm pretty pretty open. Like it's not I don't have a specific routine for warm up. I do, but even that, sometimes I'll purposely try to, like, you know, instead of doing three of this thing in a row, I'll be like, today, let's just do five or two or something to switch it up, so it's not exactly the same.

So you go, you travel obviously from NBA around NBA Arenas and the dogs are Chuaha's right, yes, and notous, notoriously loud, and you know, I mean they're kind of high maintenance dog. People would think of them as high maintenance dogs. I know you own you have chiuahwas how do you kind of keep them quiet? I mean, how do they how how are they with travel? How are they in the hotel room?

How is it?

What's it like traveling with them?

Well, so I'll connect this question with kind of the question I get asked most, which is how do I train them? But all that that you just mentioned is actually probably the most training that I do with them, because the trick wise, like I feel like they're pretty smart dogs and they pick they can pick up the tricks rather quickly. But you're right, putting them in front of a crowd of twenty thousand people, that's the real trick right there, which a lot of people don't notice or I guess don't think about when they're watching them do these feats or these actual like tricks, you know, like they're on my feet or they are my back doing a trick.

So for that, it starts, it starts young.

You know, Milow was probably three months old when he did his first flight. And his first flight, actually you just made me think of this was here to Denver his first flight. We came, we had a Nuggets game and I brought him and so, uh, he came here and you know, like getting him used to that, or when they're doing the starting lineup and it's really rowdy, you know, like that's when I'll kind of want him to be at his most comfortable. So when he was a puppy, I would hold them, keep them close to me, be petting him, giving them treats while everything all this commotions going on, and that just kind of starts getting them used to being like, okay, like this is normal stuff like. And so that way, when he's a full grown pup, that's just second eight. He doesn't even think about that. It's just his normal environment. So that is key in the training essentially.

That was actually that was gonna be my next question. How do they react to keep a dog calm when you have twenty thousand people screaming. There's the arenas are so loud, there's explosions, there's I mean, there's just so much that would rattle any dog of any breed. How do you keep them calm through all that?

Well?

And so, just like I said, by putting them around it as much as possible from a young age to get them used to it. But at the same time, you know, they are live animals and there's obviously things you.

Can't prep for.

I remember we did a halftime show at Okay See once and they have a blimp there in the arena, and I never had thought about or anything. And when we were performing, this was like five six years ago, I noticed that person who he's the older one now, he was like looking around and he was super distracted.

And then that's when I noticed the blimp, and.

I was like, oh, you know, sometimes certain things you can't prepare it for, so like you know, the pyro that goes on like some arenas have it, some arenas don't like so that kind of stuff. You know, That's why being around as much of this kind of commotion, you know, is the best because that way they can just kind of be used to anything and everything. But you know, there's certain things you can't you know, you can't prep for or for, like see ahead to like that like that blimp, or and even little nuances that they have. So Percy I'd say, was, you know, he was super quick and easy to teach everything and perform and milo the tricks.

He picks up very fast. But one of the things with.

Milo in the beginning that it kept I kept wondering what it was is he would walk funny, like really low to the ground. It almost looked like, you know, it almost looked like he was scared of walk, and so I was like, what is going on with this little guy? And then you realize, like on him, it's either the reflection or what I noticed was it's the hardwood. Because even in our kitchen, he wouldn't want to go to the kitchen and we were like, what's going on. We were like, maybe the oven freaked them out, like the noise of the snakes or something. But then it's it's the wood. So you know, now if you notice now when I do halftimes and stuff, I have a little rug.

But it took me a while because I was like, I didn't know, and I was.

Like, oh, maybe he's just like feeling the floor out, or maybe it's like, you know, he's just getting comfortable. But really, if I, like, I wish I would have picked up that quicker, because then even the beginning, when we put the rug out, he was like totally good.

But you could see when he go to the edges he like so you know, so it's just little things like that that you gotta.

That's the key with working with animals is you you gotta Essentially, you gotta listen, but not verbally. You got to listen with your eyes and obviously listen with with their actions and take your time with them to know what you know. And even when we work at the Residency show in Vegas, it's funny because the crew always has to know which dog I'm using because when I'm using Percy, there's no carpet.

When I'm using my Low got to put the cart So.

I know you're being asked this many times, but I wanted to. I wanted to check with you and for you to tell us a story because we all know that there was something going on there that uh, America's got talent, right yeah, yeah, so you should have won that show, you you know, but you were a finalist.

But we'll let that slip. And how has that grown?

Where is Christian Scooby now from tell us about the beginnings of your your idea of working with the dog and then going to the show and from where you are now they're even doing bad bits, but now not just halftime shows, not just basketball shows, but you're doing hockey, you're doing NFL, you're doing MLS. I mean, it's unbelievable that I'm happy that finally people are realizing what I have known for a long time, that you're the best show in town.

But how do you how did that come about?

Man? I? Well, thanks, Ran, Well, yeah, you know, really it started.

So I'm a fifth generation performer on my mom's side, So my parents were performers when I was growing up, so I learned everything as a kid, like I was surrounded by jugglers and unicyclists and everything. So I can I can unicycle, not Red Panda level, I can uticycle. I again, you know, I can juggle, I can, you know, do a little bit of everything. But I wanted a pet, and since we were always traveling, we got my parents got a Chihuawa because it was a small dog and they were like, okay, this will be easy to travel with.

And Scooby, that was the o G.

Scooby, So the original Scooby always would do this this move with his pos you know, we would teach him to sit to lay down little stuff in the house and give him treats, and he did this thing when he would sit up with his paws where he would move him up and down and it was almost like he was like begging us for the food. So we started saying that that's We were like, that's how he says please. So actually, even now the command for that trick with us is pleased, like that's what I say. I'll be like, oh, Percy, stay please, and that's what he does. So it's evolved throughout the years. But anyway, one time I was just laying on the floor or on my stomach, like watching TV and my dad was eating and Scooby sat on my back and started doing the please, and my dad got the idea. He was like, I want tomorrow when you go practice, because I was already practicing handstands, It's like, why don't we take him and we'll see if he does that while you do your handstand trip or your horizontal And I was like, all right, let's try it.

So we took him and he did it. He didn't hesitate, he did.

It right away, so we gave him a treat and then it just kind of was one of those things where it was like, what else can we try to come up with? And little by little, obviously it evolved and then we created the act, the routine, which was way more simpler than than it is now. But then we got a chance to perform it. And then after that obviously performed that for three or four years or so I did. I actually did America's Got Talent when I was fourteen. That was my first time on it. And but then, yeah, you know, the saying goes people run away to join the circus, I kind of did the opposite.

Ran away from the circus quote quote, I didn't actually run away. I thought about it, but I never actually did it. And I actually went to college.

I got my degree in broadcast journalism, and I kind of stayed in shape throughout.

I was recruited there to do like their circus program.

And yeah, so I got my degree, and then shortly after when I started doing halftime shows and America's Got Talent, and Scooby was already getting older at this point. And then obviously the act has evolved, and each each dog that has worked with us is kind of like, you know, brought their new trick. You know, Scooby didn't do the trick where he walks on the basketball, but Percy, when we were training with him, I remember I wasn't even training at this on this particular day, but I had him with me, and that some kid was like dribbling in basketball and Percy was watching it. And then then in the same gym there was another kid like walking on top of this sphear ball, and I was like, I wonder if he'd walk on the basketball.

And that's kind of how I got that idea for that trick.

And then obviously that became kind of like Percy Staple and now.

Mylo does it, and then Mylot now that early he always is playing.

So I've got him like a set of sports balls, like a baseball, basketball, football to play around with. And he had a plush basketball and it was always squeaking, and I was like, I wonder if I could do any trick with a little plush basketball.

And then he's the one that does the dunk. Yeah.

Yeah, that's really that's what makes you Christian the best in the league because just your athletic performance that alone, I can do that, I can't do it, but other than you, and not a lot of people can. Uh, just that alone would be a great act. And then having to do all the you know, having to train the animal and then have have they ever not reacted? Has have the dogs ever kind of froze up it got stage freight or anything like.

That, not that like froze up to where they've reacted.

But in the beginning with Milow, like I said, I would notice him very distracted with the with the floor, and so that was something like a like that was probably in my what's it been like now, probably like fifteen years of working with chihuahua was the biggest hurdle because I didn't like, I couldn't figure out what it was. And so that time that I couldn't figure out what it was, I was just thinking like, Oh, he'll get over it, Oh he'll get used to it. And really I wish I would have I mean, again, there's no way of knowing, but I wish like if they would have been able to speak, if they would have told me from day one, I would have put in the rug and then he almost wouldn't have.

Had that like thought of it.

So that was the only time where I feel like he was I would say slow where he was kind of like, you know, a little bit hesitant because he would be nervous that he would be going to the floor and so I was like, Okay, so now as it's already been probably a year or so that I've had the rug, he's way more relaxed now like now obviously, But that took a while, and that was where I was just like, hmm, that's what it was. So Other than that, though, I mean the way we like quote unquote train with him too. Like people will ask like how many hours day or and I'm like hours, I'm like no, way, Like at most I'll spend.

Like ten minutes, right, yeah, Wow, they get bored.

Yeah, I mean the max I've spent with him, it has probably been like twenty minutes practicing if that, because it's just you know, like you want them to be having fun and to treat it as a game.

Yeah.

So can I send my dog to you because she's a lunatic and I can't get her to do anything.

I know you want to talk to Christian about his broadcasting career, but we need to we need to post ten seconds to let our affiliates identify themselves.

This is jed Asman and you're listening to Wine and Gold Radio yet Cleveland, Ohio, America, Macedonia, Turkey, istanbul All Hurd let's get it, baby.

You want to talk to Christian about his broadcasting career. He does have an NBA broadcasting career. A.

You're talking about the incident, Yeah, the Indian game. Oh yeah, right. I wanted to ask you this earlier in that.

Uh.

Actually we have met once before and it was.

It was in Denver too.

No, no, it was in Indiana.

No, no, no, but before he was acting in Denver and you were like, dude, is that the guy sitting next to you, next to guy with the dog?

Right, we sitt right on top of the on top.

Of the well, the thing on one thing we always laugh about with Rafa. Christian, you probably know this since you know Rafa and that he's the guy who just things happened to and people know. And one time he gave a guy the Heimlich maneuver in the media room. I mean, he's the guy things happened to. And one day, so we're in Denver watching the game and all of a sudden, I'm looking at Rafa and is it And I'm like, isn't it the halftime dude?

The next day the guy with the jualas it was.

And then the next time we met it was in Indiana and Larry Nance tipped in.

The game winner, only game winner of his only game winner of his career, and you were sitting right next he were sitting right next to Rafa, So.

You have some Christian ascal.

He was in my eat my game up and the whole the whole season because I used that highlight for I'd use that play for the highlight and you can hear he voys going rebound.

You actually did the game with me that day.

I did. I did the game that that day. Actually I didn't perform halftime.

You allowed me to run a game with you, and I was still living in my college town, so I did the like two and a half hour drive to come hang out and call the game. And there was a super great experience one that later, when I'm a full time broadcast, I'll always I'll always remember and I'll never forget that you gave me that opportunity because that taught me exactly how fast the game moves. How you know they always say, like when you're playing basketball and you moving the ball, like the ball moves quicker than the man, And I feel like the ball moves quicker than your voice.

When you're broadcasting it.

It is so fast, and so that that was like a big like slap in the face of reality of like, hey, this career is like it's not just sitting there and chat up some basketball, Like you got to be on your like on your stuff here to know. And so yeah, respect for Rafa with that, and I mean other broadcasters too, because it's like you, like I said, it taught me the art form to another level that I had an experience.

I know you're a big time guy now in terms of entertainment, but the cherry is always open for you whenever you want to come into Hey.

Well, I don't have any sources, but when the Vegas team.

That one day, pitch for that job, man, pitch for that and you can't have somebody else do the halftime show.

But will you go down on the floor or you guys could reverse roles? Yeah, oh you want me to do the halftime show?

I'd like to say that.

Hey, speaking of halftimes, you know we are we are big promoters of halftime show halftime entertainment here and and we're trying to get Adam Hines to get a monkey somehow in some way, right, So what is your favorite halftime show other than Christian and Scooby.

Ah, that's a good question. So I I'll say I've seen her a lot, but I have respect I'll say for entertainment for me person entertaining wise, I have the most respect for Red Panda because how long she's done it and how sweet of a person she is, and the fact that she's you know, the experience because you know, I wouldn't be doing it had not been for people like her, had not been to.

People like quick Change. So those people, there's got to be a respect that us.

I'm not even the young crew anymore, but us younger generations got appreciate because if it's not for them, we wouldn't be here. But entertainment wise, like, I don't like that's a good question. I feel like there's probably you know, anything acrobatic. Usually as an acrobat I want to see just because that's like my like field.

But also I mean, I'm you know, I don't mind.

When it's like not let's say a performing act or I should say, like a like an acrobatic act sometimes when they have like singers or stuff like that, or you know, even like before it was always and by now like I mean, like I know him now, but I did a gig with Simon says. I was like, yeah, I was always like, this guy's just playing a child's game, like you know, but there's a certain like he's like a comedy in a way quick quick, so you kind of learn to appreciate that kind of stuff. So I don't have like one particular but when if you ask me that, I guess the one I would say would be just Red Panda, just out of pure respect.

Of course, Red Panda the O g O halftime show because people don't think that it wasn't the norm to have an entertainment show during half right, like the quick change was awesome. What about the new the new generation? Do you like the I think it's the Bello brothers, the brother sisters.

Yeah yeah, yeah, I've seen them performing. They just did a gt.

SO, but they so they do a I think they're they're good performers, but their act is a very like it's a traditional circus act, like you know, hands hands, hand to hand stuff, So I mean they're great at what they do. I also seen this guy, I don't know his name, but I saw it was on Twitter. I don't think you guys maybe have seen him aet either and I don't know if it's going to be something that pops off.

But he was juggling hats like and it was like on the CBS broadcast and it was like and that too.

Like when I was a kid, there was an older juggler at one of the circuses that I was at that was juggling hats but like not like it was like a sombrero hat.

And it was like different, So I like different stuff.

What about what about the brother I think their I think their brother and sister that the skate over the circle and they do something really like crazy yea swings, I tell you what.

Also there's dual transcend also who does that? And they were also a g TV bore and there there a wife and a husband too.

You're the only show. You're the only show that I approve of that I cannot air. I have to describe it.

I'd like halftime show that I can actually air and take a break during the during half.

I want to back up just real quick too, because Christian, you're you know, you're an animal expert and a halftime expert. Can we eventually live our dream and see the monkey halftimes?

They're a monkey show.

This happened. Can we have a monkey halftime show?

This can happen. We need Adam Hines to get whatever he needs to do to get the chimpanzee over to the Rocket Mortgage fieldhouse.

See that's the we can't. We can't have a chimpanzee. We already ruled that one out. I don't understand why, because again I watched the movie Nope, and a chimpanzee could attack at some point, like if there was that blimp like in Oklahoma City and it got the chimpanzee.

Yeah, you get the guy from every every which way, but.

Love like Booby's not going to run into the crowd and start ripping people out, but a chimpanzee could. So no chimpanzees. But we're thinking like either a little monkey or an orangutang like from any which way but loose.

Maybe if we get a strong enough monkey, I can do the role of Scooby on top of it.

Playing h're brainstorming here.

He speaking of speaking of you being a broadcaster as well. What you thought in the finals. Have you been happy with the playoffs?

And well, look, I've been very happy with the playoffs because I'm a big fan of homegrown teams. I'm you probably by now can kind of tell it for people listening because you already know this raple, probably, but I'm very old school, like I want to see the teams do well that like drafted their guys. That's why like's, that's why like, let's even though he left and came back, but that's why lebronze championship in Cleveland is to this day, I think the most special of all of his. That's why derk Novinsky's championship is super special.

So to me, I just think that I'm a big fan of that.

So when I see like a team like Denver who's got jo Kischen Murray, guys they drafted, like, I'd like to see that. And you know, so it just even you know, Boston, like I would normally be rooting for the Celtics because they're the same.

They drafted Jalen Brown and they drafted Jason Tatum smart smart.

But as a as a growing up a Raptors fan, it was like in me to not like them because we were in the same division. So I was, you know, like, so the fact that the heat won, you know, I like because it's also like I do like the Heat culture.

Like I said, it's old school, you know, like nowadays.

I was just thinking about it these some of these young guys, Like I don't know how Heat culture is gonna continue to evolve moving forward. When these guys I feel like aren't gonna be okay with some of the Heat culture stuff. Like it's like it's hard, like they treated like a job like that, you know, like a regular job. But obviously, as we know, a lot of like in the players field, it's not uh, you know, they're not treated like regular employees. And I feel like the Heat do that, and that's why guys like Jimmy Butler for as much as you know, that's why he didn't work out, let's say in Minnesota, when he's surrounded by certain guys that aren't gonna fit that culture. So yeah, I'm very happy as a basketball fan. This is gonna be great basketball. And that's what I feel like I love to see, you know, Like obviously, like if the Lakers at this point with the last four teams remaining, it's all gonna be great basketball. But I do feel like Lebron the Celtics, it was gonna be more overshadowed by the headlines and and the stuff that's not basketball, and here it is gonna be basketball.

Who do you think is gonna win the White Denver?

Well, you're right on that though. I do think it will be Denver. But I don't think it's gonna be a quick series. I think Miami's gonna find like so, I just think, you know, I could see it going six or seven. But you know, I do think Game one, obviously is the one. I want Denver to win the most because we'll be there and I want to see the crowd get going, and it's the first finals game ever in Denver, so you know, and they've been waiting nine days for this. So I just I think tonight might be you know, I don't know. They haven't played in nine days. Miami might be tired, So we'll see how tonight goes. But Miami has a sneaky way of taking game once. They've done it every series this this playoffs, so we'll see. But I do think I would say, oh man, I want to say Denver and let's go seven. Let's make it dramatic Denver seven.

Hey, are you what are you wearing tonight? Joker or Murray.

I have a Joker jersey with me just in case, but I'm hoping they give me one of the new ones. I asked, but you know they might be sold out that We walked around town and uh, you know, the finals Gears like all gone. People are exciting. They bought everything.

I have to say. They have some of the coolest jerseys. Then were does they do have cool jerseys?

And I just have the visual of Christian and the dogs walking around downtown Denver and they like celebrity carry about to say it because you're like celebrities walking around and be careful.

With the muffings over there. Man, don't let Scooby have a muff in there.

Yeah, oh yeah, no, they gotta be careful. That might be an extra ingredient.

Yeah, exactly.

It'd be the greatest halftime show of all time.

That would be the show. Freeze up.

Wow, man's gonna come in.

School's gonna come walk in and in the back to West on the front to Christian.

Thank you so much. We know we know you got game prep coming up. This is a big one tonight. Man. We'll see at halftime. But it's gonna be great, and thank you so much. For joining on to go radio.

No problem, no problem. I uh, I'm glad to do it, and I'm happy to chat with you guys anytime, anytime.

All right.

That was Christian Stoyanev and Scooby and Percy and my lits the coolest.

But just so you know, in case you see.

Them again, Scooby's to you know the Oi. You can pet and you can do anything, but you cannot look and straight in the eye, cause he'll start growling at you.

And my to do it. My lord is a free spirit, but.

Persie, you cannot look and straight in the eye. And you have to try it next time. He said, I have to show you if you go hey and then you look him in the.

Now, I have to do that.

I want to get Christian to come work with my dog, just for like a like an hour or something like that.

I would, I would bet you whatever you want that he will have Rosita doing at least a trick right within five minutes.

Something I can't even get her to like sit down.

For some reason.

The dogs get that he has that ability, that he's a dog whisperer.

Yeah, he has that ability to communicate.

Yeah, and you have you have or had chias I hado like like little Batman and tackle.

Yeah, hey man, let's say some uh thank you get out. We have to thank the PR department. Even though we didn't have a player, we still have to think we start to thank them because they had such a great season. Of course, the head of the PR department, bj Evans, runs the whole place with the.

Irons.

I got to take golf with him this summer.

He'll probably he probably golfs with the iron fists. I'll bet he is. I been stickler and I know he's good. I can't golf with you. We have I stink too bad. I stink too bad. I can't go.

Who told you I'm good?

You golf with good players? And that scares me. Maybe maybe we'll try it out. Maybe we'll try it out. We have to thank Cherome, who I miss Charo. He be a Jets fan this year. By the way, he's not going to be a Jets fan. It's going to be an even bigger Packers fan. He's going slinging Sammy who's in his third or fourth or fifth year. Who even knows anymore? The raining The reigning Rookie of the Year, Devin Booker the real Devin Booker. We have to thank bou Banks, who who's really going to give you all kinds of all kinds of hell now is yeah, the Boss, the Boss. She's gonna she's gonna crush you.

Now.

We have to thank our special guests, uh, Matt Gold who's kind of theymore, he's really not a guest anymore. Uh and Christian Study and f We have to thank our roadie Nicole who set everything up, got all the equipment going. Thank you, Nicole. We have to thank Joe Fritchen, the greatest, the other boss.

You know, he's my boss too.

He is too. He's gonna, you know what, it's gonna be a good cop, bad cop. It's gonna be your body.

And he's gonna kick the crab out of here.

I can't wait. The best female human in Cleveland, Lucy Veris. He's probably doing something great right now. She's probably planning.

Tree impacting somewhere somewhere.

Impacting society in a positive way. And then another guy who impacts society in a positive way just by being himself, d Mac.

One of the I was gonna say, who would that be? Demac, who, by the way, the other day was they were you know, my desk is near the the video group, which are very creative. Yeah, and they were editing a video of the night that Elliot castro Nevs came to the arena and who was introduced as Eliostronova.

That's a subject for a show.

And that was the day they had the kid race the toddler or the oh, the the baby and the kids didn't move for you know, you know why.

I have a theory on this because they had the backtrack. They had a baby race at halftime, and only one baby actually move, moved and the one that won. And I said, the problem with that was because the baby started with d MAC. Instead they should have d MAX at the flash line because what baby wouldn't crawl to d MAC, right, So that was the problem that he started with.

I mean, only one baby running away from DMAT.

So we have to take DMC. And then of course the dynamic duo of Dirty Court and Marty hell And might be the guy forget that is he in pickleball season or is it off season? He's actually working with drey Not and Rick Rihanna who are creating a pickleball league.

You want to make a team and joined.

The play on the pickaball. Maybe I've never played pickaball.

This is our time to do it because Big Dad is injured from his from he's left right hands. He's just playing right handed and might be the I'm kind of a senior circuit guy, right, Well he's not. He's not a senior, but he plays with seniors.

I'm a senior.

He plays with dude and walkers and stuff. That's why he's That's why he's the undefeated champion.

That sounds perfect. Hey, we'll be back in a couple of weeks. We're gonna stick on our cadence, Roff, We got to stay on the cadence. Sounds good, and we'll see you guys in a couple of weeks. And as always, good night, Freddy Mac wherever you are.

Also they are outside.

Swiss.
