Last week, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA), approved "return-to-play" guidelines for the 2020 fall sports season.  One of the guidelines states that there will be "no spectators" at sporting events.  Included in the "no spectator" guidelines: the parents of student athletes. While some parents were quick to accept this new "wrinkle" as simply a necessary evil during a pandemic, many others were angry that they wouldn't be allowed to see their children on the playing field.

On Monday (August 3rd), Pennsylvania State Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) issued a statement regarding the decision to ban spectators. 

“This decision is a complete overreach. It is absolutely ridiculous that parents will be unable to watch their children compete on the playing field. My legislative office has heard from a number of parents who are upset because they will miss seeing their child compete in his or her senior year. Other parents have called with concerns over sports injuries and how they believe they should have the right to access their child and make sure that proper medical assistance is provided."

“The PIAA completely jumped the gun on this. Meanwhile, the governor has 500 school districts operating by their own rules due to his hands-off approach.”
