World languages teachers at Illinois State University said the state of Illinois needs to do more to support world languages education. Illinois passed a law in 2021 requiring two years of foreign language to graduate, effective 2028. Those requirements were loosened this year to allow high school students to skip foreign language classes if they take Career and Technical Education [CTE] classes that prepare students for future careers like engineering, science or health care.

Bloomington-Normal providers who remain open and anxious to help describe an industry where good intentions run into real financial and bureaucratic walls. But some childcare professionals are choosing to think outside the box and cooperate with each other to address the area's childcare crisis and fill needed gaps in the sector, instead of scooping up business each time another center closes.
