WGLT's entry for the Crystal Mic Awards for Best Station.
WGLT, an NPR affiliate, is focused on providing hyper local news coverage to Bloomington-Normal and the surrounding communities.
We cover breaking news on-air and online, while striving to dig deeper into the more complex and pressing issues facing our community; including a homelessness, a housing shortage, crime, education, government and more.
WGLT provided extensive coverage of a triple-murder suicide which shook the community, while exploring the challenges domestic violence victims often face when seeking protection, the community's efforts to help its rising population of unhoused residents, the various local impacts caused by the Trump administration and focusing on the allegations involving one of its largest employers.
WGLT also engaged in a wide range of enterprise reporting, spotlighting lesser-known manufacturing businesses that have helped grow the Bloomington-Normal economy in a week-long news series and highlighting some of the many services offered to military veterans in Bloomington-Normal in a special Veterans Day broadcast of our news magazine Sound Ideas.
Arts, culture and history are also part of WGLT’s legacy that we continue to serve, while trying to profile the people in our community who are doing great things that may otherwise go unnoticed.
And in a nod to WGLT"s rich legacy of music, the station's hosted its first Highway 309 Studio Sessions contest which received submissions from Illinois State University student musicians.
