From the WGLT newsroom, I'm Colleen Holden. Healthcare organizations in Illinois say they are preparing for the worst now that President Trump has signed his big tax bill. Mawa Iqbal has more. The budget reconciliation bill does many things, but what healthcare groups like the Illinois Health and Hospital Association are most concerned about is Medicaid. The plan calls for a drastic cut in Medicaid spending. The IHA says hospitals that serve Medicaid.
Patients will be forced to eliminate staff and services as a result. In a statement, the group says communities that already face barriers to care will be hit the hardest. Planned Parenthood of Illinois echoed that sentiment. They say 40% of their patients rely on Medicaid to cover costs. I'm Mawa Iqbal. The elimination of a suicide prevention hotline tailored for LGBTQ plus callers may lead to more reliance on other avenues of care in the community. That's according to Joan Hartman, the director of the McLean County Center for Human Services in Bloomington.
