From the WGLT newsroom, I'm Colleen Holden. Critics of the draft McLean County Regional Land Use Plan say they would rather have a plan originated by the community than one from municipal staff and the Regional Planning commission. Noah Tang is the head of Strongtown's Blowno, an urban design advocacy group. He tells the county land use Committee that involving the public first could have prevented inclusion of things like an East Side transportation corridor.
Read the room.
The East Side corridor has been killed over and over again. It is not needed and especially after the downsizing at State Farm corporate headquarters, the traffic counts don't necessarily warrant this.
The Regional Planning commission says it will do more outreach to a variety of stakeholders.
The Bloomington Normal Community Land Trust is getting to work even before acquiring its first house. CLT president Mark Adams says his young prophet has already done 3 home improvement projects around town, like redoing a porch or fixing someone's steps. He says that's happening even as the group raises money for its main mission. The land trusts plans to buy and rehab homes, then sell them off while holding on to the land to lower purchase price. Adams says his group hopes to acquire their first home by the end of next year.
With a $150,000 tourism grant, the Bloomington Normal Convention and Visitors Bureau will continue renovations on the historic Spring Service station in Normal. Zach Dietmeyer, the CDB's chief operating officer, says the station is an important part of Route 66 in McLean County that will be showcased during the Route 66 Bicentennial next year.
It's been everything from aesthetics of the properties we have to landscaping.
To signage along the routes, to making it a programmable space where we can host events that, that really celebrate our community both internally and externally.
Diettmeyer says the renovations for this grant include two functional garage doors, and the McLean County prosecutor will serve on the bench beginning next month.
Assistant State's Attorney Emily Young has been appointed associate circuit Judge in the 11th Circuit. She'll primarily serve Logan County after spending nearly a decade in McLean County. I'm Colleen Holden.
