From the WGLT newsroom, I'm Eric Stock. In a 12 to 6 vote, the McLean County Board has awarded $1.3 million to Home Sweet Home Ministries to build a non-congregant shelter village. Home Sweet Home CEO Matt Burgess says this will offset construction costs, but he plans to ask the county for more help.
Ongoing operations as I have told the board and I've told many others, uh, we have to be willing to blend together different funding sources, including potentially tapping into the mental health and public safety funds again for operational support. The bridge project will include about 50 sleeping cabins just south of downtown Bloomington.
The two congressmen who represent Bloomington Normal were split on the proposal to cancel funding for foreign aid and public media. Representative Darren LaHood was among the majority of Republicans who endorsed the measure to approve White House cuts. House Democrats were unanimous in voting against the bill, including Congressman Eric Sorensen. It clause backed funding for NPR and PBS and several international aid programs. The plan now goes to the Senate.
Officials of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a man at his court hearing at the McLean County Law and Justice Center this week. Sheriff Matt Lane says there's no apparent sign of any immigration raid. They don't come for just anybody.
Um, and normally they come for, you know, if they know there's going to be, you know, 3 or 4 people or, you know, um, or if it's a pretty serious offense, that's when they show up here. The man ICE detained, Emmanuel Maroan Jimenez, was serving probation after pleading guilty to felony battery in McLean County. Governor JB Pritzker took aim at the Trump administration when he testified before Congress on the state's immigration policies.
We will not take away people's rights to peacefully protest.
We also respect and expect this administration to respect the traditions and legal precedent that dictate how and when our National Guard and military are deployed.
The
governors of Minnesota and New York also testified. More news at WUGLT.org. I'm Eric Star.
