Critics of the draft McLean County Regional Land Use Plan say they would rather have a plan originated by the community than one from municipal staff and the Regional Planning commission. Noah Tang is the head of Strong Towns Blowno, an urban design advocacy group.
Tells the county land use Committee that involving the public first could have prevented inclusion of things like an East Side transportation corridor. Read the room. The East Side corridor has been killed over and over again. The Regional Planning Commission says it will do more outreach to a variety of stakeholders.
The Bloomington Normal Community Land Trust is getting to work even before acquiring its first house. CLT president Mark Adams says his young nonprofit has already done 3 home improvement projects around town, like redoing a porch or fixing someone's steps. He says that's happening even as the group raises money to buy and rehab its first home for its main mission.
It shows people that we're for real. It gives people an opportunity to start volunteering and be
immersed. The land trusts plans to buy and rehab homes, then sell them off while holding onto the land.
With a $150,000 tourism grant, the Bloomington Normal Convention and Visitors Bureau will continue renovations on the historic Spriggs service station in Normal. Zach Diettmeyer, the CVB's chief operating officer, says the station is an important part of Route 66 in McLean County. It's been everything from aesthetics of the properties we have to landscaping to signage along the routes,
Service station will be showcased during the Route 66 centennial next year. A trio of Bloomington Normal groups have partnered for the 2nd year in a row to give kids confidence in the water. Bloomington Normal YMCA and the American Red Cross of Central Illinois expanded their free summer swim course to include 50 kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington Normal. YMCA aquatics director Tim Reidy helps lead the course.
3% of the time when a kiddo is in a basically structured lesson that it will prevent a drowning. The program is designed to reduce barriers for communities of color. A McLean County prosecutor will serve on the bench beginning next month. Assistant State's Attorney Emily Young has been appointed Associate circuit Judge in the 11th Circuit.
