Illinois lawmakers have passed a bill requiring applicants to provide past employment documents when applying to become a police officer. Democrat State Representative Cam Buckner is from Chicago. He says the bill is intended to prevent tragedies like the one that took the life of Sonia Massey. She was shot and killed by a cop in Springfield last July. I spent some time with her family today and looking at her picture.

Officer Sean Grayson, who faces murder charges for the killing, got a job with the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office despite a history of misconduct. The bill is passed in both chambers and now goes to the governor's desk.

The whole downtown's closed off. There's a bunch of vendors. There's a band. There's food, a bunch of games for the kids, so.
