From the WGLT newsroom, I'm John Norton. Testing shows Bloomington has significantly reduced the amount of compounds that have made the city's water taste and smell funny. Bloomington's water director is Ed Andrews. He says temporary treatments that began in March have made a difference, but they haven't eliminated those compounds entirely. People were saying, oh, it, it, it seems better. Well, yeah, uh, because.
At the height of the event we were at 330 nanograms per liter. Edwards says the compound level in the water is now down to 13 nanograms per liter. He says the goal is to get that level under 10. A state bill that would restrict carbon capture drilling near the Mohammed aquifer has created carveouts that include part of McLean County that potentially makes way for a drilling site one Earth Energy Company hopes to build near Gibson City.
County Board Chair Elizabeth Johnston says the proposed exceptions to the ban took the county by surprise. That
was very disheartening for me, um, but safety is still going to be my number one priority as they go through this process. Um, and so that, that's where I stand is if I don't, I don't feel like it's safe, I'm not sure that I can vote
for it.
Johnston says carbon capture sites like the one in Decatur show that these projects can produce dangerous leaks. The state has a moratorium on new carbon wells through next summer.
And Illinois US Senator Tammy Duckworth is slamming President Trump's plan to accept a Boeing jet from the royal family of Qatar. Well, I think it's blatantly and historically corrupt, and I think it is a bribe of the President of the United States and especially from coming from a nation that is known to host terrorist organizations like Hamas. It is not acceptable. Congressional Democrats have said the gift raises ethical concerns as laid out in the Constitution.
Trump has said the aircraft would be used as Air Force One for the remainder of his presidency, and he would take it with him after he leaves office. Trump said the plane would be accepted by the Defense Department to avoid breaking those rules. Duckworth spoke on the 21st show.
