From the WGLT newsroom, I'm John Norton. The town of Normal is proposing a ban on new Airbnbs and other short-term rentals in its single-family neighborhoods. The town council will vote on the plan tonight. The proposal sets a 5 year grace period for existing rentals in residential districts. The town would allow the rental units in multi-family and commercial districts. Town staff say those areas tend to have higher turnover and are more suitable for short-term rentals.

Bloomington was among nearly 2000 cities with a no kings protest on Saturday. These came days after President Trump deployed troops to Los Angeles to assist with immigration raids and de-escalate protests, which have been largely peaceful. Brian Greenberg of Normal was among hundreds gathered.

I

think people would be horrified here.

See that the military and police departments were working with ICE, working with National Guard. Those are institutions meant to protect and serve, and they're absolutely being weaponized and hunting people rather than serving

them.

No King's demonstrations largely centered on immigration and increased executive authority by the Trump administration.

And Republican leaders in Springfield are hopeful that corruption convictions against former House Leader Michael Madigan will lead to change. House Minority Leader Tony McCombi says she and other Republicans have been pushing for ethics reforms for years and is calling on current House Speaker Chris Welch to pass stricter penalties for corruption charges. For the people of Illinois, I mean this isn't just one victim. This is this is the entire state that has been victimized by this. Madigan was the most powerful Democrat in Illinois for decades.

And Planned Parenthood of Illinois says it has seen 50% more abortion patients since Roe was overturned three years ago. A quarter of those patients come from out of state. The nonprofit's interim president is Tanya Tucker. If we and our patients were to lose Medicaid coverage, we will Planned Parent.

Illinois, you know, would have to look at our operations and potentially make difficult decisions around our footprint across the state. Tucker says about 40% of their patients use Medicaid to cover costs. A chance of showers today, a high of 85. I'm John Norton, WGLTs.
