A program that looks to what's going on in the community, aims to understand issues that affect us, and lets you know what's on in the coming weeks.

We summarise what's in the local press each week (with members of the Regional News Team), present interviews with experts from here or even around the world to get to the bottom of topics, talk to local politicians from Shire to Federal parliament, talk to local people who are making things happen, and to local performers and artists presenting in the region.

It's spring! And so animals start to get moving, not least our feathered friends who are into nest building a breeding. So some magpies begin swooping passers by in protection of their nests from a perceived threat. How can we manage to avoid damage to ourselves and the birds? We discuss with a wildlife officer from the Environment Department.

There have been some spectacular videos circulating of car fires, especially in ships and other enclosed spaces, but on the actual statistics this would appear to be a beat up (if not deliberate disinformation). We set out the real situation.

Shockingly animal cruelty reports have increased, and in many cases there are repeat offenders, so the RSPCA is calling for increased penalties to provide stronger deterrence, and for the state to pick up the costs of the inspectorate which is providing a service to the state, currently funded by donations.

With offers abounding to support the installation of both solar panel and batteries, how can we decide on the most cost effective choice? An Adelaide Uni team has tackled the problem and come up with a fairly simple formula, and we discuss it here, along with ideas about the "three for free" offers and Virtual Power Plants.

With H5N1 Bird Flu arriving on our shores we need to get an understanding of what we are facing, and where preparations are, or are not adequate. Birdlife Australia is the primary NGO wildlife organisation with the knowledge.

Regular chat with Baw Baw Mayor Kate Wilson, covering further discussion of the bin collection, suddenly a state election issue, the Shire's "ask" for the election, and processes for dealing with Councillors who stand for election. Also, there has been some new flood mapping included after some delay in the planning scheme, which could affect some residents.
