A sports consultant says FIFA's rumoured Women's World Cup sponsorship deal with Saudi Arabia is problematic.

Both Football Australia and Football New Zealand have written to FIFA urgently, asking it not to sign a partnership deal with Visit Saudi, the Kingdom's national tourism board.

The move faces stiff opposition from human rights activists, following the nation's widely publicised history of oppression of women.

Ex Women in Sport Aotearoa CEO Rachel Froggatt says the deal goes against the core values of the tournament's pitch.
