National calls for protesters who obstruct traffic to be thrown in jail

National wants disruptive protesters to be behind bars rather than in the Transport Minister's office.

They're furious Michael Wood met with the Restore Passenger Rail group, as their protests caused major roads across the capital to temporarily close.

Opposition Transport Spokesperson Simeon Brown drafted a Bill for harsher penalties on highway obstructions.

An offender may face two years in prison and a 20-thousand dollar fine.

He hopes it combats behaviour he's calling unacceptable.
