Deputy Mayor Ben McNulty on removing "stupid" heritage status from five Wellington sites

View descriptionShare

Five Wellington sites are up for public consultation of heritage status removal.

The sites are the old Miramar oil storage tank, Courtenay Place Heritage Area, the Karori Tunnel, the Kelburn Viaduct, the former General Headquarters Building on Taranaki St.

Mayor Andrew Little and Deputy Ben McNulty wrote to the RMA Minister to ask to investigate the cases of these buildings back in May.

McNulty joined Nick Mills on the show this morning to share his excitement of the potential to remove the status from these sites.

He said it is stupid" the Miramar tank is under heritage status and removing the label off these sites is a "no brainer for our city's economy".
