This week on Wellbeing we speak with Dr Bethany Brand, a clinical psychologist practicing in Maryland, USA. Dr Brand also has a full professor position at Towson University, a position she has had since 2009. Dr Brand specialises in assessment and treatment of complex PTSD and other trauma-related disorders. Complex PTSD is thought to be a more serious case of PTSD, with the trauma usually occurring early in life because of a parent or carer.

In this episode Dr Brand talks about what Complex PTSD is, the difference between Complex PTSD and normal PTSD, how and when Complex PTSD develops, the emerging research in the Complex PTSD field, the difference in recovery for those with Complex PTSD, the time people seek help with their complex PTSD, how Complex PTSD and its surrounding raw issues are approached in recovery, that successful recovery is possible, the recovery environment that needs to be created for those with Complex PTSD, and where the complex PTSD research field is going to in the future.
