This week was the first week of hearings for Queensland's Truth-Telling and Healing Inquiry. 

The three year inquiry is set to investigate how colonialism has impacted the state's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

However, Queensland's opposition party says it will disband the inquiry if it wins next month's state election. 

Speaking to NIRS, Aunty Lesley Williams talk about her story that she shared with the inquiry and what she hopes comes from it.

Queensland's Truth-Telling inquiry begins hearings amid concerns of cancellation

In Queensland, the Truth Telling and Healing inquiry will be scrapped should the LNP wins the state election.   

The LNP originally supported the Path to Treaty Act but backed away citing the failure of the Voice Referendum last year.  In it's election pitch to Queenslanders, the LNP says its too divisive.

You will hear why the Inquiry chair Joshua Creamer believes their work will continue regardless of election result.

A suite of new crime laws in the NT have been labelled as racist.  Independent MP for Mulka says it's all about pushing Indigenous people out of towns;
Senator Lidia Thorpe speaks about her protest against King Charles III during the monach's visit to Australia;
Women of Colour's workplace report finds discrimination against women of colour is increasing. Executive Director Dr Varina Michaels says it's shocking but not surprising; and

Future of Queensland's truth-telling and treaty in doubt

This week Indigenous leaders have been reflecting on the past 12 months following the one year anniversary of the Indigenous Voice to Parliament Referendum. 

Speaking to NIRS the Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians Malarndirri McCarthy says it's time to focus on Closing the Gap and for the nation to continue to push for systemic change. 

Other Highlights Include:
Amnesty International's Indigenous spokesperson Rodney Dillon highlights the polices which will impact young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders going into the Queensland State Election. 
Kooma man and activist Wayne Wharton outlines upcoming protests against King Charles III's Australian Visit.    
And, Traditional yarning circles are being used to reduce suicidal thoughts among First Nations school students in Queensland.

Calls for systemic change one year on from the voice referendum

The Centre against Racial Profiling has found that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are 11 times more likely to be searched by Victorian Police than non Indigenous people. 

The Centre's Dr Tamar Hopkins has told NIRS the situation is stark.
