This week was the first week of hearings for Queensland's Truth-Telling and Healing Inquiry. 

The three year inquiry is set to investigate how colonialism has impacted the state's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

However, Queensland's opposition party says it will disband the inquiry if it wins next month's state election. 

Speaking to NIRS, Aunty Lesley Williams talk about her story that she shared with the inquiry and what she hopes comes from it.

Over in Aotearoa this week 10s-of-thousands of Māori and non Māori protestors met outside of Parliament house in Wellington to push against anti-Māori policies.

It marked the end of an 8-day protest march or Hikoi which involved Māori nations marching across communities to make their voices heard. 

Speaking to NIRS, the University of Auckland's Māori Studies Professor Margaret Mutu breaks down the success of the Hikoi and what's next.

The future management of land and sea country will be developed by First Nations people, with the support of experts from eight universities.
 Rear Admiral Brett Sonter from the Australian Border Force, acknowledges an increase in foreign fishing vessels along the Northern Territory coastline.
And, An organisation that's working to prevent violence against women is calling out the media's lack of interest in reporting on crime against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.

Over 40 thousand protestors push for Māori  rights in Aotearoa 

Foreign nationals illegally entering Australia through the Northern Territory coastline have angered the Northern Land Council.

The NLC's concerned about an increase in foreign fishing vessels along the NT coast.

The Council says rangers on Croker Island had to help four men who claimed to have paid $6,000 US dollars to be taken to Australia.

A majority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders don't believe their gendered violence complaints will be taken seriously by police. That is a finding within the latest National Community Attitudes towards Violence Against Women Survey.
A week of cultural ceremonies to acknowledge the Aboriginal men and boys who were incarcerated and buried on the island has wrapped up on Wadjemup, also known as Rottnest Island.
And we look at the bill that aims to alter the Treaty of Waitangi to apply to all citizens of New Zealand with nothing to differentiate Maori and non Maori.
