Local mountain bikers are angry after one of the state's most popular long-distance biking trails has been reduced by about 9km.

Some locals the area say the decision the decision to realign the Munda Biddi trail, which runs from Mundaring to Collie, has been influenced by a mining company with plans in the area. 

"I believe that this realignment has happened because there is an Alcoa extension application for a mining area lease, that's currently sitting with the environmental protection agency in WA,"Duncan Veitch, a mountain biker an outdoor education teacher told Jamie Burnett on Weekends. 

"It's not yet approved but I believe they've preemptively realigned the trail to make space for this new mining lease."

"They just come along with bulldozers and demolish the land and it never really recovers."
