New Zealand’s community sport organisations and physical clubs seem to be on their way out.
Fewer people are getting involved, and more and more clubs, courts, and spaces are closing down or deteriorating.
Gary Moller has been an active member of community clubs for over 15 years, and joined Piney for a chat about the risks community organisations face, including hostile takeovers by outsiders seeking land and assets, and the reasons behind the slow decay.
He told Piney that social media, the internet, and even Covid are to blame, keeping people indoors and prioritising long distance connection over in person.
