South Africa is in crisis. Gender-based violence is at alarming levels, with 21% of women experiencing physical abuse from a partner and 51% facing some form of GBV. From January to March 2025, SAPS recorded 969 women murdered, 11,000 rapes, and 15,000 assaults.
Today, violence extends beyond the physical. Technology now enables online harassment, AI deepfakes, and invasive tracking, threatening women and girls’ safety, freedom, and dignity. We’ll explore how violence intersects with technology, its impact on daily life, and the urgent systemic solutions needed to protect victims and restore agency.
