It’s been a tough year for South Africa’s film and television industry. 
Not a collapse but not a recovery either. Productions have slowed, commissioning 
has thinned out, and many freelancers have spent long stretches without work. For 
an industry built on momentum, uncertainty has become the norm. 
At the same time, big global shifts are reshaping the landscape, from changing 
streaming alliances to growing anxiety about artificial intelligence. 
So what does this all mean for local producers, crew, and creatives trying to survive 
and plan beyond 2025? 
Joining us is Alastair Orr, CEO of The Refinery, to help us make sense of a film and 
TV industry in transition.

For nearly six decades, Little Eden has quietly done some of the hardest work in 
South Africa, caring for children and adults with profound intellectual disabilities who 
need round-the-clock support. 
Now, that work is being recognised. 
Little Eden has been named a finalist in the 2026 CSI Legacy Awards, in the Best 
NGO category, a nod to its long-standing commitment to dignity, compassion and 
lifelong care. 
But beyond the awards, Little Eden is also grappling with very real challenges: 
limited government funding, rising costs, and the responsibility of caring for 300 
residents who depend on them every single day. 
Joining us now is Ann, who leads Little Eden and carries both the organisation’s 
legacy and its future
