Greg and Phil talk with Jess Joseph, Executive Director of the Peoria County Election Commission, about the important role election judges play in ensuring fair, secure and organized elections. She explains the requirements for becoming an election judge, including representing either the Democratic or Republican Party, completing the necessary training, and understanding the responsibilities that come with the position. She also walks listeners through the roughly 15-hour Election Day process, from arriving early to set up voting equipment and prepare polling places to checking in voters, distributing ballots, assisting with voting procedures, and closing the polls once voting concludes. She discusses why election judges are essential to the democratic process, the need for additional volunteers ahead of the November 3 election, and how residents can get involved. Election judges can earn up to $250 for their work on Election Day.
