We're celebrating the life experiences of Carney F. Coopwood, a true Renaissance Man. As a Vietnam Veteran, US Coast Guard Civilian Engineer, Educator and Mentor he provides an honest perspective on living life in the United States Military and as a civilian through the eyes of an African American. He comments on the state of race relations through the decades, from a Midwest high school graduate to military serviceman overseas to the US Coast Guard at the furthest point of the continental US, in Rhode Island. When it comes to what he's seen and heard, Carney likens himself to James Baldwin, American novelist, playwright, essayist, and social critic: “Perhaps I did not succumb to ideology… because I have never seen myself as a spokesman. I am a witness". Tune in to hear the inspirational retelling of his mentor experience with a young man, and the history of slaves at India Point Park in Providence.
