Beth woke up on December 1, 2021, with what appeared to be hives, which led to two weeks of doctor visits. She then felt symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, vomiting and migraines. On the December 24, 2021, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and began her first round of treatment.
Her treatment has included induction, consolidation, and conditioning chemotherapy.
She also received a bone marrow transplant in May 2022. During this time, the nurses made her treatment go by smoothly. She is currently on maintenance treatment and has been considered in remission since December 2022.
Dr. Soiffer is chairman of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant
Research advisory committee and has served as vice president (2006), president (2007), and immediate past president (2008) of the American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation.
