In 1981, an era of Minnesota sports came to a close when the Vikings wrapped up their season at Met Stadium. WCCO brought you the final game at "The Met" after 25 years as the home of the Vikings and Twins before moving to the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. The Met was eventually torn down and the Mall of America built on the site.

WCCO 100 Days - Met Stadium final game in 1981

In 1991, golfer Payne Stewart won the U.S. Open at Chaska's Hazeltine. But eight years later, tragedy struck when a plane carrying Stewart and others crashed in a field near Aberdeen, South Dakota killing everyone on board. WCCO's Bruce Hagevik was on the scene and it's another of our 100 Moments in 100 Years.

In 1993 the North Stars left for Dallas. But in June of 1997, news came out of St. Paul that the NHL would return to Minnesota as the Minnesota Wild and play at the new Xcel Energy Center beginning in October of 1999. WCCO looks back as we celebrate 100 years with 100 memorable moments!

WCCO 100 Days - The NHL returns to Minnesota

Truly one of the saddest and hardest moments as we look back on 100 years of WCCO Radio. In December of 2012, a man walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and shot and killed 26 people. 20 of the victims were children between six and seven years old.
